Default Help Doing Something Special For My Wife

Hi Everyone...

Ok, yes, this is cheesey romantic thing. I've been married to my wife for a handful of months now, although we have been dating for a good couple of years.

Anyways, she loves a musician (name withheld just in case she reads this over my shoulder) who is coming to where we live to play a concert. I surprised her with tickets to it (she knows we are going now to the concert). I also thought - hey! what a great surprise, maybe I can have a surprise happen for her at the concert. So I have sinced e-mailed the artist (at the general e-mail address that they have on the website) basically about how great etc my wife is, and if there is something that the musician can do to help me express this.

I don't know what I was expecting, but (I know that this is waayyy too early to expect anything) I haven't received any sort of reply.

So simply, does anyone have any ideas of how to go about asking the musician this, or should I just wait and see if anything happens now?

I know this is probably one of the worst topics....and its super cheesy, I know, but hey....she's worth it.

Cheers.

No that is a good idea, it is not likely to get a reply but you never know. If this works you will be getting tail for a while.

If this said artist is played on and of the local radio stations, you may want to get in touch with them. Not so much to get the story on the air, but they are in with pretty much any record company through a rep. That rep usually has something to do with concerts or promotion of the artist when in town, and may be able to work something for you.

Ask for the music director or promotions director of the station that they are played on.

If it's someone like a crazy glittery diva, you'd have an easier time convincing the likes on Oilfan.com that Calgary's gonna win the cup. But if its a lesser main stream, or underground artist, you may have a better shot.

Good luck man, let us know how it goes.

if its something simple like getting the musician to dedicate a specific song to her from you on stage that might be doable? it would take about 3 seconds for him to say something, and nobody would know but you and her.

Find out what label they're on, then contact the local rep.

Let's just say they're signed to Warner, that rep will be shuttling them around to interviews and organizing any appearances. It's a long shot, even if the message is passed on, they'll probably forget.

The local radio guys are fricking morons, but you might also want to try them.

Sweet, thanks everyone...great ideas! Yah its Sarah Harmer, so no crazy glittering divas here. And I don't have a super special story...I just well want to say how swell my wife is. And yup, it could be a 3-second introduction of a song ("this one is for so and so, from...") or anything bigger.

I like the radio idea (not sure what station plays her out here), and she also has some media and maybe booking rep etc contacts on her webpage, so I will just forward my e-mail to them...

Cheers.

You know what will work?

Show up at the venue in the afternoon, stick around and watch soundcheck. Then ask Sarah herself, she's a chick and think it was all romantical and stuff.

If you can't find her, or if she skips soundcheck then find the tour manager and give him a note. If you ask very nicely and say thank you, they'll pass it on. Better than going through a record label person or a radio person, the tour manager controls everything.

My first thought was you got her tickets to the Rolling Stones, Alice Cooper, Sloan, and Kanye West

unless it's Sloan or Kanye we're not thinking of the same concert.

Is the concert at the Metro Centre, Rebecca Cohen, Forum, or at a bar? (Marquee, Palace) or even the MacInnis Room in the SUB?

For the record there aren't many of us on the East Coast and I think only two of us in Halifax (Halifax Drunk ironically enough is in Ontario) so I tend to remember - I'm actually not a stalker ... well not of men anyway, however if you're wife is as great as you say she is (kidding)

Give me some details, and I'll see what connections I can work. I actually have some VERY strong connections with this sort of thing.
