Default Calgary Electronics Sale

A guy at work told me that every year there is a big electronics sale (I think at the Round Up Centre) that all the local places are there (Future Shop, Best Buy, Visions, A&B, Soundsaround) and apparently there are some great deals to be had. Does anyone know when this is being held this year?

From what I recall, it is usually the Saturday the first weekend after Labour Day.

Looking back at the previous threads, Bobblehead is correct.

Soundsurround is the only one at the Big 4, and the rest of the companies try and compete with their own "Calgary Only" sales.

I wonder if they'll still be having it though because in their flyer on the weekend it said they were having some big sales before they move to the Calgary South location at 130th Ave.

For those 12 hours the big 4 building easily becomes the sleaziest place on earth.

Yes, they are. Some years I have to keep myself from reading the flyer.

I've never gone. One thing is I have always had Corporate Challenge events beginning that day. Another is I know I would have a hard time not spending too much money.

Last year's Soundsaround event was a total bust. Much smaller crowds than usual as well.

Does it cost anything to get in? Is there a mad dash as soon as the doors open?

No, but there is a huge line up and the special start on the hour throughout the day. Best thing is the Friday before you can get in by invitation and get any of the specials. My buddy has a Soundsurround card so he always gets an invitation.

Ah... so I might go and there would be no special that I would be interested in during the time I'm there. Unless they tell people in advance when certain things will be on sale.

There's always a huge flyer in both papers the Friday of the sale. Usually lists most of what is on sale. There's always a few odds and ends extra- but big ticket items will be in the flyer.

It's free to get in, but you'll have to pay for parking if you want to drive to the Stampede grounds.

There's no mad rush. There's a big line that forms, and then they slowly let people in.

If you really want something, try getting the same price somewhere else. I went to A&B Sound one year and the salesman gave me a massive discount on a Denon 5-disc CD changer.

What I found so stupid about the Big Four Soundsurround sale last year was that employees amd friends of employees and some other group were allowed to get in for a "sneak peak" on the Friday night before the doors opened to the general public on Saturday. Hence alot of the "steals" were picked over by the time the doors opened up on Saturday.

One thing that's really good there - Cordless phones at the sale are at great, great prices.

If someone could hook me up with a pass or two to get in on Friday I'd appreciate it.

Is it a credit card or just some sort of membership card?

It's a credit card, but I wouldn't advise using it unless you enjoy 30% interest rates.
