Motorola phone mini-rant
Good god. Do any other motorola users have just a beeotch of a time getting their phone to charge after they have had it for a while?
I had an old motoroloa and it happened, and i was told it was just a defect in my phone. Got a new one, same deal.
Got a new model, same deal now.
My work phone is also a motorola and doesn't charge. You have to fiddle with it for 5 minutes to get it to charge, then once you put it down.. it stops and says unable to charge!
ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGH!
I'm sick of having dead phones.

I believe this is the very reason that Motorola went with the mini B style plug on their Razr's... I had the same problem with two of my older Motorola's.

I have to wait until my backlight turns off with the flipper open, plug it in.. wait until it says its charging, close the lid, wait until the light goes off and put it on the table as soft as if it was a bomb.. and its about roughly 25 % of the time it charges.
Any other time (IE just plugging it in) it always says unable to charge
I miss my nokia where i just plug the male into the female and it charged no questions asked.

My T720 has been acting up for the last year. I found it only does so when I leave it on non-stop for over 2 weeks. After those 2 weeks, it will start doing quirky things like not charging, freezing, cover light not turning off when closed (what a pita when sleeping), empty phone book, not ringing even though ringer is on, alarm clock not going off.....
After a simple reboot (turn off and back on) all is good for another 2 weeks.

All I can get
|
One of these days I'll have to get one of those cell phone gadgets. Haven't really had a need for one yet. Folks can get a hold of me at work, folks can get a hold of me at home. For all other situations (in transit, out and about) I really don't need to be bothered or things can wait.
I guess I'm not much of a yakker.

I used a T720 for just over 2 years and I know exactly what you're talking about. However, I got a charger stand for a birthday present (along with an extra battery) and that thing was amazing. I always had a charged battery and the only thing I ever did was swap out the battery. That was my favourite solution. I loved that phone.
I've got a Samsung right now and I really don't like it. I like the size, but I think the functionality sucks, the text messaging sucks, the camera sucks, connectivity sucks, reception sucks, and it takes pictures in my pants constantly!
BOO to Samsung. I'm going back to Motorola for my next phone.

Speaking of cell phones, Telus has a promo on right now. They have a Samsung on for $0 if you take a three-year contract. I'm not sure that really makes a lot of sense to me. You sign a contract to pay nothing? I know there is a monthly fee, but I'm looking at something really limited. Probably the $25 for 175 minutes and call forwarding included.
I mainly just need it for work. Calling the boss or him calling me and that's about the most I'll use it for. It would be nice to have for the odd time when I do have to contact someone during the day when I'm not really able to access one, other than the boss'.
I've never had a cell phone so I don't know all the rules. The contract is for $0, which makes me want to know what exactly is in the contract.
Sorry to Jayems, not trying to derail your thread. Just didn't see the point of starting a new one.

Contracts are usually dependant on your needs. I'm with Rogers and have a $30 a month (base) for 150 weekday minutes, 1000 evening and weekend and unlimited incoming local calls. Then you add on the other features, like caller ID, voicemail, text messaging. Then there are service charges.. so I figure I'll be paying around $50 a month.
I don't use a home phone anymore and I don't give out my work number, so the only way to get a hold of me other than the internet is my mobile phone.

The $0 is for the phone itself. You can almost always get a free phone with any company if you're willing to sign a 3 year contract.
You still have to sign up for a monthly plan as you are planning to do and you have to stay on some sort of monthly plan with Telus for 3 years because of your contract.
The contract basicly just locks you into their company for the 3 years and they give you a big discount on the phones in order to do so.

Don't even get me started on Motorola phones!
I started my old contract with one and about 8 months in, I took it in and they told me I would have to pay to replace it - I finished my contract on a loaner phone and never went back to pick up my old phone.
Unfortunately I am stupid and got a Razr with my new contract. What a crappy phone! I liked it at first because it was so small, but that's about the only thing I like about it.
Do not get a Razr!

LOL! That reminds me of how my old phone, which wasn't a flip, used to always call my friend when the phone was in my pocket. It was always the same guy, and for some reason, it would only call him past 2AM on a night when he has a really important meeting the next day.
He'd call me the next day and tell me about it, and after a while he stopped calling to tell me about it, but I'd run into him somewhere and he'd be like, "Oh yeah, your pocket called me last week."

I love my Motorola, I've had no problems with the phone or with charging. My charger looks kinda like this one though:

Just remember that a $25 plan is not really a $25 plan. You still have to add 6.95 System Access Fee and 0.50 911 fee per month. As well as if you want things like Call ID or a useable voicemail, they are 5 per month each, or 7 per month for both.
Thumbs down to contracts - I switched to Virgin Mobile and just buy minutes as I need them - save a ton of money, free VM and CALLID, don't have to pay rip off SAF and 911 fees, and get to use Bell's network!
