Best place to buy a Mac
Alright, even before the last 2 threads about Macs I was thinking about getting a New MacBook, so now I've desided to get one sometime in the next month, the question is where should I buy it? From what I've found the prices are pretty much the same every where. Now I see at bestbuy you buy a mac and get a free Nano and free(after rebate) Mac Office, which is looking like the best deal. But where is the best place?
Edit: Oh yeah, I'm not just looking for a MacBook, my parents are wanting a Mini Mac aswell.

If you (or a close friend ;-) ) are a student, the Microstore at the UofC provides the education discount.
Otherwise you will find prices to be pretty much the same from store to store. Therefore I would reccommend going to a store that specializes in Macs and would provide better advice and a decent selection of software. (eg. My Mac Store, Westworld).

I've always bought my Macs direct through Apple at 1-800-My-Apple. My experiences have been very satisfactory.
It really depends on if you just want the standard one that they sell in stores, or if you want to upgrade the hard drive.
You can always add your own memory, and that is usually cheaper if you do it yourself after the fact.
Applecare is worth the money on laptops. The odds that you'll need to have repairs done on a laptop (given that they get toted around) is pretty high and they can be pricey.
You'll also need to pickup a good bag. I got a sweet bag messenger bag that fits my MacBook Pro (15") like a glove from http://www.spireusa.com/products/bags.htm
It was only $100 and the guy who distributes them in Canada lives in Calgary. I got it by Fedex in 2 days.

They're very good, and so is Westworld Computers on center-street north. I go to Westworld simply because they're closer, but I've had great experiences with MyMacDealer, too.

yep, they are also good. I used to go there when I lived in the north, and always had good service.

I've had mixed dealings with Westworld. MyMacDealer is better (helps that I have a buddy working there).
Used to get a super professional discount at CompuSmart, though they were limited in their Mac offerings.

Westworld and MyMacDealer have been good to me in the past. I lean more towards Westworld lately because our corporate sales rep has been trying hard to win our business and usually gives me a good deal.
If you get a mini have any extra memory installed by the store or apple. Not the easiest computer to upgrade.

Okay, heres a question, so I have a student id of a family member that i typed in to see if it worked on the apple store site, it worked. Now are they going to verify that id number or am I home free now. With the id you save $200 on MacBooks and MacBook Pros so Id like to know.

I sure hope you didn't enter the ID from the same IP adress as you used to post your message here. As soon as they see that they'll be after you.
(I am teasing a bit of course.)

They might verify that your name matchs the name of the student # you provided.
The safe way to get around that is to buy the computer online as if you were your family member (get it shipped to them but you can pay on your own VISA/MC) and then just scoop the computer when it comes. Or get them to buy it and then pay them back.

The funny thing is the student ID is 4 years old LOL. The worst that happens is they make me pay full price right? Ha ha ha (nervous laughter).

Way to go guys, getting on the Mac bandwagon.
I also agree with all those who suggested My Mac Dealer. Great service and very helpful.
