Default Original Star Wars on DVD!

Quote:
On September 12, 2006, Lucasfilm and Fox Home Entertainment will release the original Star Wars Trilogy on DVD for the very first time. These editions, which will be packaged with the Special Edition versions released in 2004, will be restored to their original incarnations, and feature Dolby 2.0 Surround Sound. Each of the three films will be available individually for the MSRP (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price) of $29.98.

I have absolutely zero problems with the Star Wars Special Editions. I am happy that the original editions are out on DVD though so I don't have to listen to people bitch and moan about the special editions.

Honestly, I like that the option is now available. I miss things about the originals. I miss seeing the Ewoks play drums on Stormtroopers dead skulls, Han shotting first, and not seeing Hayden Christiansen in Return of the Jedi is a bonus as well, that was over the top stupid. I also won't miss the dance recital in Jabba's Hut and that weird song.

This is sweet. I was going to try and hunt them down on Laserdisc so I could convert them to DVD.

Too bad they are non-anamorphic dolby 2.0. No thanks. I don't really mind the Special Editions, and they'll look much better than these.

One other related note, Cinemax HD is showing all six of these movies in HD in November.

I'll own both. As stupid as that sounds, and as much as that's what Lucas wants, I'm in the same boat as the other people who posted. I actually don't mind the changes, but miss some of the classic scenes.

The should have never have taken out the Ewok celebration at the end of Jedi. That on hurt the most.

I'll stop posting about Star Wars now on an internet chat forum to maintain whatever credibility I once had. :P

Too true. Almost makes me wonder if Lucasfilm won't release another amamorphic original version later.

Han Solo shooting first is paramount to his character. I hate that that was changed. The whole thing that makes solo sweet is that he ain't give a ****.

George Lucas just sits down with a tub of lard by an editng station and makes these special editions. I am convinced someone kidnapped him or aliens abducted him. All the special editions and new Star Wars movies really f***ed my Star Wars experience. I use to love the originals but now I am slowly relating them to the garbage he is currently spewing forth.

I can't believe all the edited crap in the special editions. They put Hayden in Return of the Jedi? I am ashamed he is Canadian. A hot dog could act better then him.

An the dance scene in Jabbas palace is whack. You can also tell all the computer special effects because they stick out like a sore thumb on 25-30 year old movies.

If aint broke don't fix. Burn a in hell and die slow George Lucas.

I agree with you Buff. I just hate the Animated song and dance at Hutt's palace in Jedi. But that's for the kids.

I honestly probably won't buy these, and i'm a die hard Star Wars fan.

You do understand that Anakin Skywalker died as Hayden Christinsen's character in Episode 3 correct? Why have some crusty old man at the end of the films. IMO, that's one of the best additions he's made to the new edits.

I have the original VHS versions (the ones just before they did some sort of a sound/stereo cleanup). I haven't played a VHS tape in a couple years, and have replaced most of my tapes with DVD.

It's horrible. Anakin Skywalker died in the arms of his son Luke, he was redeemed and became good again, thus he shouldn't have been young Anakin anymore.

Well, I'm a geek.

If obi-wan is seen as old, and yoda is seen as old, why is anakin young? They all died old, they should all be pictured as old, or all young.

I love the Prequels. They aren't legendary by any means but I enjoyed them.

I agree. That's why I got the original trilogy Dvd's from ebay. They are transfers from the Laserdisc set. Look good enough for me, and most importantly, they are the original films. Plus Lucas didn't make a cent off me.

I'll throw my support behind Episode 3, it was a huge huge improvement from the other 2. Probably equal to Return of the Jedi in quality.

He was still part human under the suit. Should Obi Wan be Ewan Mcgregor when he is part of the force? I sure as hell don't want to see his whiny pimply face as Anakin in the end of Return of the Jedi.

I hated Anakin's character. Darth Vader was supposed to be one fo the most ruthless, powerful and tryranical Sith Lords. Anakin's fall from grace was the the softest thing I have ever seen. He was a whiny spoiled brat who didn't get his own way. If thats how he was Darth Vader came to be, he would of been rolling on the ground flaying his arms around and having a temper tantrum in the middle of the Death Star.
