Severe Weather Headed Our Way
Should be here within the hour.
Golf ball size hail has been reported west of Springbank. This thunderstorm should be reaching Calgary around 5:30 PM and large hail is possible with this storm in Calgary.
The storm has weakened a bit though. We shouldnt get hail like that here.

Thanks dude, I'm in my office with no windows and have no idea what's happening out there. And Howard Stern is not giving me local weather updates, haha.
I'm quitting work now and going home, hail hurts when you're on a motorbike.

Another bigger cell just popped up outta nowhere. It's SE of us right by the mountains. If it continues to grow it will hit us dead on. But, thats probably a good hour away. Actually, probably hour and a half.

Springbank? I heard them say that on the radio but they must have been talking somewhere west of the city? Directly south of where we work is the communities of East Springbank and Springbank Hill and then north of where we work, Old Banff Coach Road turns into Springbank Road. So I'm not really sure where they are referring to.
We saw no hail, just rain, in Wentworth but very ominous clouds coming from the mountains. All I know is the new car is parked underground and no hail was encountered on the way home. Thank you Jesus!
Right now the radar is showing a system moving NE from the mountains directed right at us.

I love wacky weather. Also in Wentworth, just minor rain.

Well, for the past half-hour, I've had lightning crashing all around me in Signal Hill. Even got a bolt on video. My entire house has been lighting up every time a bolt hits. Scary and cool all at the same time. I think the storm is calming down a bit now and heading east.

Environment Canada ended the Severe Thunderstrom Warning at four minutes to 9. 27 minutes later they had it back up.
It's been coming down in bucket loads for the past 25 minutes on the north side of the UofC. A lot of flashes up in the sky and it's cracking really loud right now. A very small amount of hail. The rain was coming down insanely hard about 20 minutes ago.
Environment Canada must have an extra guy on staff just to monitor weather in Southern Alberta alone.

Huge lightshow around Chinook, but the rain isnt that bad.
Edit: now it's picking up. Glenmore should be flooded out under MacLeod again in about 5 minutes.

Evergreen got some pretty good lightning. I was hanging ot my kitchen window trying to get shots of some bolts (Neeper have any suggestions?, I cant get it) and one hit pretty close, as in I felt the static. The pic is crazy. You can't see the bolt but the picture exposed as though it was 5pm. Nice blue sky and everything.

Quite the light show. My digital cable would blank out for a second everytime there was a lightning flash.
So what causes the crackling thunder as opposed to it being just a big boom like other times?

Hrmm, that one kinda grew up outta nothing. I was out havin a beer at Limricks and it just opened up. Wasnt expecting that tonight. Looks like there is another mini-system headed over the mountains too. If there is enough energy left we could have another tonight...but its only +13. Maybe if it gets warmer after this recent cell passes we might see something.

Man, I miss the strange skys, storms and lightshows in Calgary. Are they still seeding these storms to cut down on hail damage?

Yeah they do if they can catch them in time. This summer though there hasnt been to much warning with a lot of them. By the time they could get out there the stroms are too high. I believe they also focus more on the area north of the city proper anyway.
EDIT: By they way, if anyone is in Saskatchewan around Leader or Kindersley, you are about to get really hammered. Big time.

Another cell is crossing the rockies. It will be interesting to see if it maintains enough strength to make it here...

That was a pretty good storm last night. However, as I was remarking to my bassists wife last night... These piddly stomrs have nothing on a good Southern Ontario Thunder-boomer. Summers on Lake Huron really give you an appreciation for a good thunderstorm!

Funnel clouds and golf ball sized hail in Red Deer. They even activated the EBS for it.
