Default Opinions of ESPN MNF?

So it's about 7 minutes left in the 2nd quarter and I'm really not impressed with the ESPN crew.

The play by play guy Mike Tirico needs to get some emotion. The Raiders are running a kickoff back to the Vikings 40 yr line and he's talking like the guy is getting ready for a putt...it was just far too "hoohum yeah he's running the ball back..."

Theismann is Theismann, he's got good knowledge of the game and has improved over the years. He's at least listenable...especially without McGuire yelling at him all the time. He does stumble around sometimes.

Tony K is crazy obnoxious. He seems to be trying too hard...and what's he there for? I guess to be a prick? He is doing a good job of replacing Mcguire. And this Tony Tony Tony thing they do where people ask him dumb questions is old already.

It could be tough watching them all season, I really can't see their ratings matching ABCs numbers unless things improve in a hurry

The ratings aren't really supposed to match. Sunday night football is the flagship broadcast now. This is just Sunday night football moved to Monday.

I believe that Tirico is the best young(er) talent in sports broadcasting today. He will be fine in this role, maybe give him a bit more than 35 minutes before declaring him Bob Cole of the South?

Theisman is a twit..always has been and always will be.

Kornheiser is there strictly to add an entertainment angle...and he is brilliant at it on the radio and on PTI when he is there. May want to give him some time to grow into his niche as well.

Maybe the part about lack of emotion is in direct relation to the fact that...the game means nothing?

Regardless, I'll take Madden and all his vast knowledge of the game anyday, over anyone you can put in the booth on Monday nights. I can watch and listen to him on Sunday just as easily as I did on Monday.

I love Tony Tony Tony on PTI, but he's just Dennis Miller the second on MNF. He doesn't know football very well, and he could not be any more uncomfortable as a colour guy at a football game. Tirico is fine, he reminds me of College bowl season, and I like Joe better now that he doesn't have to argue with that old kicker anymore.

I agree on the Tirico part, I thought he was really good with pbp.

Do you consider Joe Buck old? I consider him to be the best youngish guy.

The clock in the bottom middle of the screen was a little annoying. I don't know if I'll get used to it, but why not leave it in the top corner where the chances of it obscuring the play is minimized?

I'll give the whole crew a month into the season, but I agree that Tony K is similar to Dennis Miller, but from a sports talk radio background, so he should have a better idea how to work with the other guys. But I really hope he doesn't try to play the "Joe Six-pack" point of view guy. He is intelligent, let that show through.
