LOS ANGELES -- Get ready for a segregated ``Survivor.''
Race will matter on the upcoming season of the C-B-S show as contestants will be divided into four tribes by ethnicity.
That means blacks, whites, Latinos and Asians in separate groups.
Host Jeff Probst says the idea ``actually came from the criticism that 'Survivor' was not ethnically diverse enough.''
He says the twist fits in perfectly with what ``Survivor'' does, saying the show is ``a social experiment,'' and this is adding another layer to that experiment.
Probst says contestants had mixed reactions to the racial divisions.
This time, the new Survivors are stranded on the Cook Islands in the South Pacific.

This just seems like a bad idea. Pretty slippery slope.

Well....... there's a lot that could be said about all the stereotypes.

I guess we should stay away from it though. Just to be safe. But it will definitely draw ratings... I feel like Im going to want to see how it goes down.

What an awful idea, as if there isn’t enough racism on T.V. now we are justifying that race is top priority when trying separate groups of people? I have said it before and I will say it again, there is no difference between races whatsoever save a few superficial features, but the difference between these features, i.e. color of skin is enough to base an entire T.V. show on? Absolutely disgusting and a black eye on the face of today’s society

They split them based on sex before and it wasnt a big deal. People get too worked up over race these days.

EDIT: Ok, before I get uber-flamed here, I mean in the sense that J pold is getting all worked up. Not true racism.

I’ll admit I get pretty work up about racism, but not much more than some people get worked up about politics on this board, perhaps I went a big over the top, but come on what do you little kids think when they watch this show? Does it not reinforce the idea that they are different from a black person, or a Latin person, or a white person? Should we not to try to implement that we are all the same? Not base a competition on how we are different?

I think that there are possibly cultural differences that would differentiate the races. There are no difference between Canadians and Americans but there are differences in the values and attitudes between the two nationalities.

Well, they are different. They are a differnet color. As long as they dont discriminate in the game then there shouldnt really be an issue.

Survivor is stupid and so is racial segregating. Race is a big issue no matter how you put it.

IF it where a culture difference than that would be a different story, similar to the world vs. north America all star game, there are millions of different cultures around the world and it would be interesting which culture would excel in certain situations, but unless this article is misleading to what the show really is, they are dividing groups by race

So what? They are a different color should that be the basis for a T.V. show? Should they separate the people in the next survivor by the color of their eyes? Its just color right, I wish when it came to the issue of race it was just about color but its not

Sure, why not. Seperate the left handed people from the right handed people too. Or maybe seperate men and women...well, the already did that. Or maybe seperate based on age...oh, yeah, they did that too.

We're not all the same though. It's the differences that make life interesting. I think they should have a tribe for each race and another tribe with a mix to see how they perform together. I think this will get me interested in the show again.

You don't think viewers will be cheering for one racial group over others? Attributing wins and losses based on skin color?
I think it's a gross way to divide people up. Sex discrimation is hardly a problem compared to racial discrimination.
