All right, I'm tired of having this same old situation. I've a friend who's a completely avid fan of all the Matrix movies, and makes me and our other friends watch them all the time. I'm as red-blooded as the next guy, and love my kick-ass special effects movies.

However...

I thought Matrix 3 was the biggest peice of crap ever to come out of cinema. I was astonished to find out that the guy I went with not only tolerated it, but liked it. I've had Matrix 3 arguments w/ a variety of people, and am beginning to realize there's a slight chance I'm in the minority on this issue.

So I put it to you, my fellow, highly respected Calgarypuckers, to tell me; Was the Matrix 3 a good or a bad movie? Why?

Yup, that is my answer as well. I don't think I have ever been as bored in the movie theatre as I was watching the Matrix 2. Bad bad bad movie.

Matrix 1 - really cool movie, great special effects, chicks in leather, questions the oldest philosophy "I think therefore I am", really cool villian in Mr Smith

Matrix 2 - Enter the architect, the writers get full of themselves and movie audiences sleep through 20 minutes of the dumbest conversation ever. Still some nice action sequences, Mr Smith becomes the terminator a flat 2-d character

Matrix 3 - a formula action figure, Smith becomes a pathetic self cloning entity. The hero decides that he's jesus christ, bad movie where the only reason to see it is in the hopes that it redeems the second movie

Same with me. I think they only had enough material for a second movie but were pressured by the movie big wigs to release a trilogy. The second movie was looooow on substance.

I must be something of a sucker because I watched part 3 even though I hated part 2.

Come to think of it, I can't really even remember what happened. They both sort of blend together into 4 hours of suckiness. Which one had that ridiculous extended rave scene? Blecch.

I finally saw the 3rd one last week, I borrowed it from a friend for a sort of rainy/lazy day watch. It was better than the 2nd only because I kinda liked the battle in the dock and there was no rave scene.

All in all, both were awful, they should have stuck with the 1st one which was quite amazing.

First one was amazing but it left nowhere to go. It would have been nice if they had made the decision to just leave it there. But of course there was too much money to be made so they pumped out a couple typical action fllicks that lacked the story and intrigue of the first.

And yet there I was with my $13.50 in hand ready to pay for that tripe. I suck.

I though the Massive Smith fights were the only thing worth watching in that movie.

Other than that they tried to completely over write the movie, try to make it too indepth, and it just ended up sucking with tons of meaningless conversations and stupid robot factions.

i liked the third movie but it wasn't as good as the first.

when i sat in the theatre in 1999 and lawrence fishburne is holding that duracell, MAN was that a movie moment.

i suspect a lot of disappointment with the other two movies stems from that moment, i mean the mind messing was done right away and the rest is catching up to that mindblowing idea.

also, i hate to call the movie-watching public sheep, but i saw both 2 and 3 before 99% of moviegoers, a private showing the day before. i might add the only movies i've seen preview style! anyway everyone i saw them with thought they were good, i think a lot of opinions were formed after a general malaise and the "i heard it sucked" phenomenon.

how else could it really have gone? neo discovers his abilities as a war in the real world is brewing. there's matrix fighting and big robots, flying things, and some original sci-fi ideas like big old-school cannons instead of laser beams everywhere. it was a little different, a little new.

bottom line the first one was a leap of logic that could not be matched.

oops, i almost forgot.

the machines always kept their word, even the french dude. humans weren't as trustworthy in the three movies.

there's more to them then the judeo-christian-existential themes here, this isn't just philosophy-101 basket-weaving.

I remember walking out of the theater of 3 and just bein p*ssed off that I had been force fed 2+ hours of religion masked as a high budget sci fi movie with a side of some spectacular special effects. Whar really got me was Keanu in a crucifix like pose being pulled away by the robots. That was the last straw.

I am not a religous person, and I don't think that people who dedicate Sunday mornings are dumb. It's just my choice not to get into that stuff, and to do other stuff with my time. Ergo, ala the architect, I don't like when people try to tell me about church at my front door, I don't like being talked to on the street about it, and I don't like when I am dooped into watching anything about religion. True, I could have walked out, but I haven't walked out of a movie... ever I think. I even sat through the remake of Psycho and Slackers.

This is not a hate on for those who are religious, I just don't get it, and I didn't want to see it in 3.

I was not 'blown away' by the Matrix 2 after a first viewing, but really got into it after some internet discussions based on what it could be saying about contemporary issues and paralles of themes from ancient religions (mostly greek). It seemed to me, hey, there's a lot going on here behind the scenes. A lot of neat ideas. I was SUPER stoked to see Matrix 3.

Well we all know how that turned out. Matrix 3 was so bad on it's own, but the fact that they didn't do anything with the 'supposed' themes and ideas from Matrix 2, it made me hate both of them.

And I have to say, the special effects got real old, real quick. The fight scene was so over done it wasn't interesting past the first 30 seconds. Give me the asian style fighting they had in the first one.

Oh yeah, and SOOOOO predicable. Neo using his powers in the real world. EVen though I knew it was coming I felt gyped. And how they showed it as him seeing what he saw in the matrix but in red symbols instead of green? Holy lack of imagination.

I was hoping that they were going to be smart about this. That this was a hint that they were stuck inside a 'Matrix INSIDE a Matrix'. Smith did compare the humans to viruses in the first one. Perhaps their 'real world' especially ZION was really just a quarantene for the viruses? That would have been cool! But they didn't address this at all, leave any questions to this. Even if you tried to read into this an believe it, it still left you short.

The later two Matrix movies and episodes 1 and 2 of Star Wars are prime examples of what happens when you try to sell with effects. Pure crap.

The only movies I have seen recently with amazing special effects that didn't overshadow or kill the movie, or more likely just try to hide it's 'suckiness' where the Lord of the Rings trilogy. But of course, with an excellent novel like that, you don't have to worry about storyline. To his credit though, Jackson used sets and costumes and make-up brilliantly, where Lucas would have gotten lazy and used CG. You need a blending of the real and computer I think. CG should be used to make movies better, not simply make movies.

I'm in the minority and I actually enjoyed the 2nd Matrix movie. Yes some parts were overdone (stupid rave scene!) and the architecht scene was made just so audiences would be saying "WTF?" after the movie, but I did like most of the action in it.

I saw the 3rd one mainly to see how they'd end it; I had unfortunately read a great theory about how it should end - that Neo, Morpheus, etc were all actually machines in a matrix in a matrix... really cool stuff.

The actual 3rd movie was a huge disappointment for me however - the fighting on the dock scene was so boring to me - seriously if all I want to see is thousands of things flying at someone shooting them out of the air, I'll go sit down and play some of the tougher levels in Halo. And the whole Jesus theme got annoying too.

im in the 2nd and 3rd matrix sucks boat.

its not that i couldnt get the storyline, its just that it was so watered down, and they could have done so much more.

its obvious that they rushed the second and third out for the $$$ not the storyline.

and WTF was up with the black actress in the 3rd? i forget the character name - the prophet? WORST WOODEN ACTING EVER!

luckily, i bought the matrix dvd, but i will not buy the others. they suck royal ass.

btw, has anyone seen the animatrix? how does it rate for plot?

I thought the 3rd movie was okay at best. And I really didn't like the second one. They really just didn't compare to the first matrix, which was great. I'm really disappointed with the movies besides the first one. When I went to see the 2nd one my expectations of the 3rd one were lowered so much that I think that is probably the reason I enjoyed the 3rd one more.

As far as the Animatrix goes all I remember is that it is really crazy.... I can't remember if it was any good or not.
