Call Telus. With Telus it's difficult since they don't use sim cards.

If the phone is Telus branded, you can use it with us. I've activated a phone purchased for $3 at a flea market before... as long as it's not someone else's lost or stolen phone, that's fine.

Also, call and have it suspended. Not often, but sometimes the person who took your phone will use it, racking up your bill. We can make it so your phone won't work.

At the same time, make sure we have a current contact number for you. If we don't and someone decides to return the phone, we have no way of letting you know how to get it back.

That's all I can think of for now. Oh, since you're on the internet, you can suspend the phone yourself at mytelusmobility.com but I'm not certain as to whether or not you can make is so the voicemail is still active, and we can do that at the call centre. Up to you.

MiKe phones have SIM cards and so do World Phones, but I'm not sure what you mean by 'it's difficult' because we don't have SIM cards? That you can't just plunk any phone down on our network?

Well with Sim Card, you can just buy a new phone and stick in the sim card for it to work but telus... u have to get a new phone with their configuration and stuff.

Also, i don't realy like the phone selections they have here so I usually import a phone from Hong Kong most the time... and all phones there are Sim Cards... and with them... all i do is take my old sim card (or if I want a new number... get a new one) and put it into the phone and thats it.

I tried calling it of course *first instinct* but I just instantly got voicemail... My phone was on when I had it because I was checking time on it just earlier...

I dont see the point of taking someones phone...what good is it to them?

kind of angered at my stupidity i guess, word of advice! keep your phone in your pocket at a crowded place, dont just have it on a belt clip...

did anyone know about the capatibility with other phones? like some of the one ones on ebay? they are fairly affordable...

I lost my cell phone once while playing golf, and didn't realize it was missing until the final hole. I also had it clipped to my belt. I backtracked to each tee and, not finding it, went home. While at home, I decided to call the cell number and some golfer answered and said they had found it. I arranged to meet the golfer and recovered the phone.

As Firefly said, it has to be Telus branded. So as long as you buy one off eBay that is Telus branded, then you are good.

Also, for those of you talking about SIM cards, how would that help here? If he lost the phone wouldn't the SIM card be lost as well right now?

That really sucks for you dude. Since you still have a contract, you have to "Buy Out" a phone from Telus (Very expensive).

An alternative is to buy a used Telus phone from somewhere. It will save you a lot of money.

If you look on Ebay, you can buy unlocked CDMA phones. They work with either Bell or Telus.

DON'T buy anything that says GSM (Rogers/Fido/rest of the world)

If your not looking for anything special in a phone then your best bet is to buy a talk-away bundle. Here is a link to the available phones.
http://www.telusmobility.com/ab/pcs/handset_home.shtml

The talk-away phones are brand new, so you don't have to worry about buying a stolen/refubished phone. They are also cheaper in price, ranging from $99.99-129.99. These phone can also be bought at most Best Buys, Future Shops, London Drugs, Staples stores or right from telusmobility.com.

There are also some refubised phones available the the link I provided. The refurbs look like new phones. The major downside to a refurb is that they come with only a 3 month warranty vs. a 1 year warranty.

After you get the phone you can activate it online for $10 at mytelusmobility.com.

Here are a few more deals that I consider good.

LG 4600 Refurb(with P&T starter kit) $69.99
http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...gon=&langid=EN

Kyocera K494 (with P&T starter kit) $44.99
http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...gon=&langid=EN

Motorola v262 $129.99
http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/prodde...96&catid=23503

If you buy a BELL phone you will waste your money. TELUS WILL NOT activate any handset that is not TELUS branded.

Thank-you. Any phone that is not Telus branded will not work properly with our billing system, and we can't troubleshoot properly when things go wrong. This creates headaches for both the customer and ourselves when they call in because their bill is charging roaming fees or they can't use text messaging and we can't figure out how to help them because the phone doesn't have our software in it.

Also, those deals you posted are pretty good... I've heard London Drugs has $70 Pay and Talk starter kits out right now, I didn't click on your links so I don't know if that's one you posted or not.

Yeah I work at a Telus dealership. W/ the exception of the mike phones only one phone will take a sim card. That is the world phone motorola A840. The sim card in it won't work in north america though.

Yeah you have to buy a telus branded phone. For new phones, the talk away kits are the cheapest way to go. London drugs and sometimes future shop are the cheapest way to go.

London Drugs has starter kits for $65. Talk Away bundles are available for $99, $129, or $149 depending on the phone.

There were some refurbished phones on sale in mid-July, but London Drugs tends to sell out of those fairly quickly. Each store only gets an allocated number and they fly off the shelf. It was an LG, but I can't remember the model number.
