Default 10 Greatest Sports Songs? SI

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/si_...rts-songs.html

What did they miss?

I agree We Are the Champions should be #1, even though it is not really a sports song - I believe it is a gay pride anthem. I would also nominate Queen for Bicycle Race and We Will Rock You.

How about The Lonesome Kicker by Adam Sandler?

50 Mission Cap, Tragically Hip

Rocky Songs: Rocky Theme (Gonna Fly Now), Eye Of the Tiger

Stompin Tom THe Hockey Song

Michigan Wolverine fight song.

Fleetwood Mac, Tusk, featuring USC Marching Band

Pogues, Bottle of Smoke

The Simpsons - Talkin' Softball

Well Mr. Burns had done it,
The power plant had won it,
With Roger Clemens clucking all the while,
Mike Scioscia's tragic illness made us smile,
While Wade Boggs lay unconscious on the barroom tile...

We're talkin' softball...
From Maine to San Diego.
Talkin' softball...
Mattingly and Canseco.
Ken Griffey's grotesquely swollen jaw.
Steve Sax and his run-in with the law.
We're talkin' Homer... Ozzie and the Straw.

how about:

We Will Rock You - Queen
Fireworks - Tragically Hip

Two of my personal favorites:

Monday Night Football Theme
Are You Ready for Some Football - Hank Williams Jr.

I agree though: We Are the Champions should be #1

It always amazes me when people from other countries talk about how great our national anthem is. I guess hearing it every school-day for twelve years sort of takes any of the majesty out of it. Now, the old Soviet anthem, there was something that would make your spine tingle regardless of your nationality.

I'm partial to the Hockey Song by Jane Siberry: "This stick was signed by Jean Beliveau so don't ****ing tell me where to ****ing go."

Also, one of the tracks on the Rheostatics' Music Inspired by the Group of Seven is a moody instrumental with a clip of Newsie LaLonde talking about hockey.

If you count ****-fighting as a sport, Gallo del Cielo by Tom Russell is an absolutely brilliant and heart-breaking song.

The Lonesome Kicker
Shot Down in Flames
HNIC Theme Song
The Notre Dame Fightin' Irish Theme Song (Can't believe it's not there)..

And the Alan Parson's Project song that many NBA teams use while doing the player intro. That's a classic.

For me nothing beats Stompin Tom.

Some more Canadian sport related songs, by Canadian acts:
The Ballad of Wendle Clark - The Rheostatics
Wayne Gretzky Rocks - The Pursuit of Happiness
Frozen Puck to the Head - The Arrogant Worms
Curling - The Dyk Van Dyks
Harold Snepsts - The Dyk Van Dyks

Jr. Gone Wild has a disc titled "Pull the Goalie" which should count for something.

Check out the song "Wayne Gretzky" by Goldfinger. Definately a classic sports tune.

It brings a tear to my eye that O Canada is there. It is a great sports anthem, in that it's great when they play it after a Canadian win, and it's great that they play it before a hockey game.

I always liked ACDC - Thunderstruck as a sports song!
