Default Rental scam

I have received an email from a person in england about my suite... he said he would like to pay upfront, before moving... I email him the specs, and the rent/deposit amount.

I received a 2nd email, he wants to send me $6000 in bank drafts, and Im supposed to deduct the rent and mail him the Balance. Obvious its one of those scams.

Should I string him along?

why dont you guys come up with some good requests i should ask of him...lets see if i can string him along for a while.

String him and post your entriess on www.419eater.com.

Get him to send you a wooden statue of Mikka Kiprusoff

I would wait until the drafts come in until you completely dismiss him, at least string him for a while. If the drafts are Western Union, turf him.

Forgive my incredible ignorance, but what exactly are the ins and outs of this scam? I've gathered it's like the "I am a rich Nigerian ..." type emails, but how does this differ?

Basically the "tenant" sends you a bunch of $$ in bank drafts, then you take out your deposit and send him back the rest (supposedly by cheques or whatever drawn on your own account where you deposited the draft).

Later when the bank figures out the draft you deposited is fake or whatever, they take out the $$ you deposited. By that time the fraudster has deposited the cheques from you and made off with your money.

Is his name Daniel Goodison? When I was selling my camera he emailed me and wanted pics of it. I sent some and then he was saying how he was going to send me more than it was worth for one reason or another and for me to send the difference back to him. I told him to go screw himself.

Ah, interesting photon, thanks for the enlightenment. FG, have you come across this in the past? I'm surprised you're having no luck renting that place out, it looks quite nice in the pics you have posted.

Forgive my ignorance, but how do you take pictures of your camera?

I have a 419 letter I received in the regular mail, it's priceless. Well, it's not really a 419 as it's from a Jimmy Kome "a native of Cape Town and Director of Project Implementation, South Africa Ministry of Mining and Natural Resources."

And to think I passed up an opportunity to receive 30% of 15million US...

It's a pretty common way the scam works. Usually they say they don't know how much shipping or insurance or super express delivery will cost, so they'll send you a really high amount "just in case". They need it really soon so you don't have time to wait for the full international clearances.

By the time their draft/money order/cheque goes through the international process and is discovered false they are long gone with the "overage" you've so kindly returned to them and sometimes the product.

Tell him to send the drafts, and when you get the drafts let him know you will hold the extra for him.

I know what you mean, even with the low vacancy rates it's hard to get a good roommate.
I ended up with the nephew of a guy I know.
He's a bit young, but meh, it'll do.

Find some pics of a small 200 sq.ft. apartment like you find in japan. If he goes for it, then it's 1000% a scam

Maybe throw a few cockroaches in there as well... and a mop & bucket
