Default Miami Vice.....Opinions??

I saw it Friday night and was pretty impressed with it. I liked the style that Mann brought to it, thought Ferrel and Foxx were good, and I am ecstatic that it stayed true to the series in the sense that it was Crockett's movie and it didnt turn into a buddy cop action movie like it could have been so easily. I'd give it a 7.5 out of 10, will probably crack my top 5 of the year.

Terrible. I never watched the original series, so maybe I missed something, but I thought it was generally bad. The acting was poor (Jamie Foxx not exceptional, Colin Farrel typically brutal ala Alexander), the storyline was unoriginal, and the fact that both guys had to rescue their women separately (how helpless are women, jeez) seemed too cliche.

I had low expectations going in, and it certainly didn't meet them. How many clips of them riding a boat can you possibly show? It felt like they were in Venice...

2/5, and I think I'm being generous. I think it could have been much better had it been set in the 80's w/ an 80's soundtrack.

I haven't seen it yet but it better have the same feel as the show. Michael Mann, the guy who did the show, directed the movie so hopefully he hasn't strayed too much from the original concept.

From what I have read, the only think in common between the original show and the movie are the names. Can anyone who has seen both comment? Is Elvis still there?

It was horrible. I never saw the TV series but as a movie this was brutal. The camera work was terrible. It felt like you were watching a home made movie at times. The "plot" was pretty boring as well.

I give it two thumbs down.

I don't think there was enough story in the movie to be 'true' to the tv show... there's just not enough there. Farrel really only has like 12 lines in the movie, very sparse on dialoge (intelligent or otherwise).

I think it was like every other remake movie out there. Sell a movie based on a well-known t.v. show, you'll make money on the name but it will be crap. There has never once been a movie like this that was actually good, especially compared to the original series. I barely remember Miami Vice, but I do not think this movie gave it much justice.

Didn't mind the soundtrack though.

Everything good about the original - style, character, music, drama, mood, and sheer electricity all thrown out and replaced with darkness, muddiness, and messy crap.

The TV show was fantastic, full of energy and grit but at the same time very stylish and involving. This movie really has nothing in common with the TV series and it's pretty bad.

I guess Im the only one who liked it and TOTF, it's not that the canera work was bad, thats the style that the director wanted to go, something different than your normal flick, he did this in Colaterral and it worked great there and I felt it worked great this time around too.

Clarkey, it doesnt have the same feel as the show, it's an updated version, if they made it like the show, it would have a cheesy 80's feel straight equipped with the wicker shoes and all. That would be lame. It had a totally different soundtrack, more agressive, I think Audioslave did a bunch of the songs as I heard Chris Cornell's voice a lot.

I guess I am alone on this one, but I was expecting quite a bit and I thought it delivered. Was it the best thing I have ever seen, No, was it the best action movie, No, but I thought it was very solid and I thought Ferrel and Foxx were great, as they brought their own style to the character. Otherwise, people would be complaing that they weren't as good as Don Johnson or Phillip M. Thomas.

But the star of the show was Michael Mann, he added all the style in world, and gave this popular 80's show a great update for the 21st centruy. Anything else would have been cheesy and lame by today's standards.

The camp factor is what made the show so great. To abandon that would be stupid, if he wanted to make a completely different movie and just keep the same names he should have just done something else. I think I'll try to download it so I can see what I think, I was going to go see it but the reviews I've read in the paper on online have been pretty bad.

Just got back and I liked it. Some of the camera work was pretty brutal and got annoying but for the most part I thought it was a good movie. Pretty much what I expected from Micheal Mann.

Anybody that went into this movie expecting Bad Boys 3 would be seriously dissappointed.

I think Bad Boys 3 would have at least been entertaining. Watching Colin Farrel make out and drive a speedboat for half the movie was lame. I think you can fit the movie's dialogue on 3 one-sided sheets.

Then if it was Bad Boys 3, people would be complaining that it was Bad Boys 3 and that it was very unoriginal and cliche. I guess you cant win with everyone.

What a surprise a major Hollywood action movie sucks.

This should make the front page of The Onion.

Well, it wasn't Bad Boys 3, it was Miami Vice, and it was unoriginal and cliche. Except it wasn't 'cool 80's' cliche, it was 'every cop movie ever made' cliche.

Farrel was wooden, Foxx was barely in the picture. It stank, regardless of what cool previous movies the director was involved in.

But everyone's got a right to their opinion. I thought X-Men III sucked as well...

Miami Vice was pretty disappointing overall. I've been a fan of Michael Mann for a while so I was expecting a lot more out of this flick. I felt that it was unnecessarily long and that it lacked pace. Perhaps the only good thing in this movie was Mann's visual style and he's proving just how good HD can look with photoreal films.
The Crockett dynamic may have worked for the TV series but it does not do too much for the Movie. Don't get me wrong, Colin Farrel's performance as Crockett is entertaining but not enough to sustain this at 146 minutes.

I have not seen it but it looks like just another cop movie in Miami. How original hollywood. Recycle ideas and come up with something ripped off yet again.
