Kabila's story is pretty incredible: After the country struggled through twenty years under a US-sponsored despot and then civil wars caused by regional powers fighting over control of the Congo's minerals, Kabila, himself a guerilla and the son of the former president, taking over when his father was assinated, and somehow being able to end the civil war and build concensus for a democratic government. Now comes the harder part, keeping democracy afloat in the face of internal and external factions that will try to gain control of the country.
