Default Bobby Abreu a Yankee

ESPN reports that the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies have reached a tentative agreement to send outfielder Bobby Abreu and pitcher Cory Lidle to the Bronx.

Looks like the Yankees are trying to buy a world series title again!

Baseball really needs a salary cap.

Same thing every year with the Yanks.........buying themselves a team.

Great for New York and Yankee fans, not good for the sport.

The best part is (for them), apparently they didn't even give up any of their top prospects. Phillip Hughes is definately not part of the deal.

Oh and:

Damon
Jeter
Giambi
A-Rod
Sheffield
Matsui
Abreu
Posada
Cano

That is their batting order when healthy. Great.

Don't forget the Red Sox they do exactly the same thing every year except they seem to be forgotten about because everyone hates the Yankees so much.

I think they should get a baseball salary cap but never will because the union is so strong and the owners so fractured.

Back in the 90's the Yankees did a better job of anyone else of developing their prospects 9Jeter, Petite, Soriano, Williams, Posada, Rivera etc.) and combined with their deep pockets they were able to win four world series. Now with onyl deep pockets we have seen them struggle to regain that ame level of dominance.

AS long as this helps to ensure the Red Sox don't make the World Series I am okay with it. The Jays weren't going to make the playoffs anyways so no real reason for their fans to get too upset about it.

Yep, I keep saying that too. Everyone was so giddy a couple of years ago when Boston beat the curse. The only way they did it was to spend spend spend a la the hated Yankees. They are indeed one and the same.

Hopefully Abreu's medicore hitting continues in NY.

The Yankees havent had top prospects in years. Much of what they traded in the past half-decade has been overhyped crap that the NY media build up.

A farm system is irrelevent when you can spend $250 million to buy players.

At the start of the season it was basically:

Yankees-190 million
Florida- 14 million

But that has a lot to do with the ownership choosing to go that low for the Marlins. The next lowest team would have been the Devil Rays at 35 million, another crappy owner that likes to have a low payroll rather than competitve team.

The real low teams seem to be between 40-45 million. So I would say that is the lowest of teams that don't choose to go way less than they need to.

They had a few to write home about. Navaro and Halsey were considered solid prospects in the Yankees system when they traded for Johnson.

Usually in years past, they've given up something of value, overhyped or not. But here, they've given up a pile of crap. Their 1st round pick Wilson was a money pick (seriously), which for the yankees is beyond belief.
