Rangers land Carlos Lee in six-player deal

In exchange for Lee and minor league outfielder Nelson Cruz, Milwaukee acquired reliever Francisco Cordero, outfielders Kevin Mench and Laynce Nix and minor league pitcher Julian Cordero.

Wasn't sure if I should toss it into the Blue Jays thread or not, but here it is anyways. I don't mind this deal for the Brew, although reaction seems to be going against them. Carlos Lee is a heck of a player. I did think the Brewers might go for more pitching, but guess not. They get a variety of good depth however.

It is a bit of a strange trade. I'm not a big fan of the pieces being exchanged, Cordero could rebound and be good again, I don't like Mench that much.

But Carlos Lee is going to be an FA at the end of the season, and this clearly lessens the impact of his departure.

The Brewers clearly didn't want to sell him off for prospects, because they still plan on contending. This keeps them still in the race and helps them a bit down the road.

Cruz is a better prospect than Cordero, pretty close to making it IMO, maybe next year.

Mench has never lived up to his hype - maybe the Brew crew is more to his liking.
