Default Best view of Calgary

Where to you folks is the absolute best place to take a picture of Calgary. I'm moving West at the end of the month and I want to get a nice pic of this city that I can proudly place on my living room wall in my new home. Thanks in advance for your picks!

There is a parking lot on Nose hill park you get to off 14th street. If you are going north I believe it is the second one on the left. If the road doesn't go up the hill abit it is the wrong one.

You get a great view of down town from a higher angle and the whole river valley. Hard to get the mountians in though.

Closeup- The hill just north of Memorial. (Crescent Higghts I believe.)

Or on a clear day if you have a good zoom I'd say the view from Eastbound Memorial coming down the hill towards Deerfoot, as you can get the mountains in the shot behind downtown.

A great one is also at SArcee Trail, just north of Bow Trail. Another great one is about 2 blocks from me in Stanley Park that overlooks Mission Road as it comes up to Macleod.

Another spot is off 17Ave SE. I think it's 26 St. going south from 17 between the two Barlow Tr.s. There is a pulloff. Another great view is on the Sarcee heading up from the NO.1 but I don't know where you can pull over.

For a great mountain view I like heading out towards Okotoks. I was doing some testing at a feed lot about half an hour outside of Okotoks and the sights were pretty great. Except for the cattle humping eachother and farting all the time.

I love Scotsman Hill too, but I'm kind of hoping to get some mountains in there. So many of my friends in Vancouver always tell me how there are 'no mountains in Calgary'. Half true, but at least the Rockies silhouette proves them wrong!

Was just going to say this.

Go up the hill on the south section of Sarcee Trail. If you go Southbound you will be going up the hill and as you are going up there is a really nice view.

Another good place is Nose Hill Park, or from Edgemont/Hawkwood.

There's a great park just north of the St Georges Dr. exit on Memorial Dr. Its at the top of the hill, on Centre Ave & 13 St NE. Its a little tricky to get up there, but its worth it. You get a great close up of dowtown from the east with mountains beyond.

Here is another famous picture (looks fake though - the mountains aren't that close):

Wow, cool picture, although I agree with you it doesn't look accurate. You can tell the goal of the photograph is to get downtown, snow covered mountains the river, and maybe even COP into the picture. Everything but the Dome!

Atop of those twin apartment towers at the Shaganappi/Memorial intersection is a great view of the mountains OR downtown (not both)...

Also, just as your heading up Sarcee above Edworthy park is nice. I like the views by my house though, from on top of Nose Hill =).

For a good downtown photo, like the one I took in my sig, go to the ACAD/SAIT parking lot just south of the SAIT/Jubilee LRT stop.

It's a hill overlooking Kensington. Still trying to find a good (read cheap) shop that will print this thing for me as it's quite long (120" x 21"). Cheapest I've received so far is $150.

Alright, enough of this best view jibber jabber. One thing everybody can agree on is that the higher the elevation, the better the picture. The 90 meter ski jump tower at COP is the highest point in Calgary. It has an awesome view of everywhere in and around the city. The view of downtown from the west IMO the nicest of the 4 sides. The view to the south south west is nothing short of spectacular from up there. I was amazed at the mountain view to the south. Also surprisingly cool is the view straight north from the tower. Bowness looks really nice (at least from a distance lol)...and silver springs also has grown into a nice tree filled community.

Disclaimer: I may or may not have a biased opinion seeing as i work there . In all honesty though, I've lived in Calgary my entire life, seen the sights, this one trumps all others. Worth the $6 elevator ride.

have to agree with the Sarcee just N of Bow. Great view.

Barlow, just N of Memorial is also good too.

I have a friend who does printing, not sure what he'd charge.
