Default A question for memorabilia collectors.

I was just looking at the NHL.com jersey auctions, and saw this.

It is a replica Canada Cup '76 jersey signed by Darryl Sittler. There is also one signed and numbered by Bobby Orr. link

I have no issue with this, but if they are supposed to be replicas of the 1976 jersey, should there really be a Nike swoosh on them? If that was on the tag or something, no problem. But with it predominately above the name, it really takes away from the 'replica' aspect.

(and historical note - a graphic design student was paid $35 for the (now) famous logo)

Is thaere any additional value for this jersey versus something you could get from Jersey City and then have Orr/Sittler sign?

You'd get a COA - Certificate of Authenticity proving it's actually their signature. The Orr one has the additional value of being a numbered limited set.

I agree, the swoosh takes a lot away from it in my books.

Just a footnote...

Several years after Nike had become successful Phil Knight took said graphic designer out to lunch. When the bill arrived, Phil handed it over. Inside were certificates for $500,000 in Nike stock for the artist.

Yeah, I read that he had thanked her better once the company made it big. That was a classy move.
