I saw it yesterday afternoon. It was pretty good. Some scenes were a little far fetched for my tastes but overall I really enjoyed it. There's going to be another sequel. This flick was obviously meant to be the first part of a story that will take a another installment to wrap up.

I've heard some really mixed reviews. Most say there are some spots with special effects for the sake of special effects, and how much those bother you seems to decide their rating.

Just got back from it. I thought it was far better than the first one. Some parts were hilarious. The acting was great, didn't mind the effects, and can't complain about the best part of the movie Keira Knightley.

So.....In a movie about a Pirate who is being chased by a mythical pirate with an octopus for a head, and his hoard of sea creature themed pirate henchmen, which is a sequal to a movie about the same pirate being chased by his former crew who are now cursed undead pirates, you found some scenes far fetched?
I thought it was pretty good, it moved quickly and when it ended I thought there was still more to come (because I didn't think 2 and a half hours had gone by).
As for the sequel, the filmed it at the same time, it comes out next summer.
Definaly following the Star Wars sequel system here.
First one could stand on it's own as the end of the story,
second one is pretty freakin awesome and can't finish the story without the third. I just hope there are no ewoks in Pirates of the Caribean III.

Wow, it sure kicked ass at the box office. Who would have thought it would have by far the biggest opening ever.

I watched the movie a couple nights ago, and thought it was outstanding! Like BBS said above, I honestly didn't think the movie was over yet... totally didn't feel like 2.5 hours passed. Just heard on the radio the movie took in over 130 million this weekend. WOW.

saw it last night.
it was ok
some great lines again and I was surprisd that they were able to get the whole cast together again.
Johnny Depp is one seriously demented dood..er..pirate.
it was worth the $8.50 to go see it.

Some scenes a little far fetched? Were you the guy sitting in front of me at "Star Wars Episode II" that emphatically said.. "As if that could happen!!!"

I herd that Johnny Deep openly admitted that the this one isn’t very good and the 3rd one will be better

Took the kids last night. I thought it was pretty good. You certainly don't go looking for realism. Johnny Depp was hilarious. My son was spittin' fire mad at how they ended the movie. (He's 8.) He needs an explanation - NOW! LOL.
I remember my wife being the same way after Fellowship of the Ring. She had never read the books, was blown away by the movie, but was completely ****ed she had to wait a year to find out what happened next.

Saw it on the weekend...meh it was ok, we all thought that the first one was better and that it was a little long. Davey Jones had some amazing CGI.

I was thinking about this yesterday, they should have some sort of system where they compare the amount of tickets sold instead of the money brought in. It may be the biggest $$$$ gate ever, but back before movie tickets were $10+, I'm sure there were movies that had bigger audiences.

Here is a little trivia question I heard on Lethbridge's ROCK 106 this morning:
What movie sold the most tickets on an opening 3 day weekend?

Haha, I just meant there were some parts that were a little over the top and pushed too far for me to suspend my disbelief. Don't get me wrong, Im not one of those types who goes searching for problems to gripe about; I want to enjoy the movies I see. Im all for big action scenes and edge-of-your-seat suspense, but sometimes they can take things just a little over the edge, even for movies about cursed pirates and octopus headed bad guys. I'd give my prime two examples, but dont want to post any spoilers.
I hadn't heard that they filmed the sequel at the same time. That's good to know. I hate having to wait years and years between sequels like with Star Wars. I was so grateful that Peter Jackson did that with Lord of the Rings.
Was the actor who played Davey Jones the guy who played Vincent in Underworld and Shawns step-dad in Shawn of the Dead? I saw a lot of the same mannerisms in Davey Jones as in Vincent.

Was that one tall pirate, who kept losing his right glass eye, the same actor as the one who plays Garreth from The Office UK?

Yes that's the same guy, he's also in Love Actually.
