Yeah, what's up with that?
This is definately something the Riders do not need right now.

He will play tonight in Vancouver. Rider fans should be outraged. Barrett claims it is strictly a 'football decision' to let him play. It is clearly not a 'moral decision'. They are just a bad team that is desperate for a win. More clearly stated, Barrett is a desperate coach trying to salvage his job, and his buddy's (Shivers - the biggest goof in the CFL).

Why shouldn't he play?
What has he been CONVICTED of?

He should be suspended until the trial is complete. If he's innocent, he's back on the team. If he's guilty, he should be cut.

I tend to agree. It sets a horrible precident if all it takes to sideline a pro sports player is an accusation.

Yawn. It's a bar room assault charge, it's not like he's beating his girl or drowning babies. It sounds fairly minor, and while I can't think of a specific player, this has happened before with many players in many leagues. The charges are laid and then often it turns out drunk guy got in his face about his play and they pushed and shoved and some people jumped in. "Brawl" could be a bit of a sensational term. Often it turns out guy who laid the charges is looking for some money...which is silly because this is a CFL player, middle managers make more.

Rumour has it...
KK and a bunch of Riders (10 or so) were at a local niteclub and got into a fight with a local gang (Native Syndicate). Keith apparently tossed a beer bottle at one of the gang members, but accidentally hit a bouncer.

which is why I'm wondering why there isn't nearly as much outrage with Kyrese Hebert going to Winnipeg. Granted, he was blocked at the border for a while, but he was charged for beating his girlfriend (wife?) & almost drowning her in a tub...the guy plea bargained down to misdemeanours...but there's not nearly as much publicity, public outcry for him playing, etc. It's interesting.

It just wouldnt be the Riders if one of their players didnt get arrested annually.
At least this isnt as bad as the HIV positive player who (allegedly) raped several women...

The guy hasn't been charged with rape. The sex was consentual, I believe, however he didn't tell them that he was HIV positive before having unprotected sex, which is where the charges came in.

By definition, having unprotected sex without disclosing that you are HIV positive is aggrivated sexual assault. It is tantamount to rape. And that is exactly what Trevis Smith is charged with.

semantics. rape, to me, implies force, against her will, etc. But that's splitting hairs.
Either way, I'm glad Trevis Smith isn't playing. I'm not sure what the effect of this arrest will be on the team, but the stats show that the 'Riders are 1-0 against the Lions the game after a teammate is arrested
