Default Average work commute in Canada . . . . 63 minutes

Average time to commute to AND from work in Canada is 63 minutes in a day.

I would say mine is about 44 minutes round-trip, primarily highway driving though.

Now that I'm taking the bus like the rest of the common peasants, I'm up to 100 minutes round trip.

In a way though I do like it in so far as there is something about being able to distance yourself from work.

Interesting but I wonder what the time would be for just the city of Calgary I was reading a magazine (can’t remember which one) but they gave they city public transportation and F saying that the LRT needs a serious upgrade and should be similar to the Underground in London or the Metro in Paris

Thought that was a bit over the top, but than I tried to take the train out of down at 5 o clock and now I couldn’t agree more

Living in the city, depending on time of day, construction, accidents, etc. my commute ranges anywhere from 10 minutes to 65 minutes, each way. Probably on average, its 30 mins.
Its so annoying that what could be a very quick trip turns into a battle. I'm not surprised when people display road rage.

That's why I gave up on public transit. It was taking me 60 minutes to get to work and 90 minutes to get home. So 150 minutes combined. Now that I went back to driving it's cut to 30 minutes each way and I have an extra 90 minutes of leisure time in my day.

That sounds just about right. On a good day, I'll spend 55 minutes on the road. On a bad day, more like 100. Regular old day, probably right about that average of 63.

25 minutes round trip by bicycle. It's actually about the same using public transportation (bus).

haha I love how some people have it timed down to the exact minutes (like 23 mins for example)... not that you all sleep to JUST the exact time you are able to or anything. Its ok I do too.

That sounds a little high though that 65 minutes. My twice daily dosage of rail-molestation on the C-Train only lasts like 40 minutes...

How much of our lives are spent travelling in and out of work?

Yikes.

Edit: By the way, anybody take the C-Train last night after work at like 5pm out of the downtown core? There were too many people to stand on the platform, and they were lining up down the stairs and down the street. This was due to a 10 to 15 minute delay in trains. It's happened before too, not during Stampede. Then you'll see like 4 Northeast bound trains...

its like the city doesn't believe anyone lives in the south or something.

Just to be clear, as I said in the original post, . . . . the 63 minutes average is COMBINED, both ways.

I'm usually 22 minutes or so one way, mostly highway.

oops... yeah I thought you meant each. I guess I should learn how to read. But really... lets see...

1 hr/day = 365 hours/yr = 15.2 days/yr

Assuming you start work at age 20, and work to age 65, thats 45 years so..

15.2 days/yr x 45 years = 684 days / 365 =

1.87 years travelling. Over a career. Hmm.... guess its not as long as I expected. But still- think about how many other things you could do in that time!

Yeah, it must add at least 20-30 minutes to collect your severed limbs and find another ride.

I used to be 90-110 both ways. I hit all the WORST intersections every day (Bow Trail/Sarcee, 37st/Glenmore, Elbow/Glenmore, Ogden Rd/Glenmore).

Since I moved I can eliminate 2 of those intersections, although the gong show that is Elbow/Glenmore more than makes up for it.
