I know its hard for the majority of posters to comprehend the impact a hurricane has on on area, so when the 4th one in a month heads to the same area, the results have to be nothing short of devastating.

Florida braces for such a phenomenon this morning as Jeanne heads for the eastern side of that storm weary state. I simply cant fathom what its like to be boarding up your home for the 4th time in 4 weeks and heading North without knowing what you will find when you return. Just brutal. Not to mention this storm is already responsible for the deaths of over 2,000 people.

Im hoping beyond hope that this thing doesnt make a direct impact on an area already crippled and water logged. The results could be beyond anything seen since Andrew.

Also I am selfishly hoping this thing doesnt take a path that will bring it my way, as this area has had all it can handle as well. The physical and emotional impact it would have on the masses may be more than many can handle.

Anyhow...rant over. Send good thoughts to the people of Florida...they need all they can get.

Looks like we may be on the very edge of this thing...so a little deviation east and things are good here.

Not good for millions of others though.

From some reports I've read, this is part of a normal, cyclical uptick in hurricane activity that could last 25 years or so.

Four a year - or more - might become normal.

Hope you and yours weather it well.

This is the type of alert that has become far to common of late for a weary poulation still reeling from devastating floods. Also, they were talking last night that October is expected to produce even more hurricanes than September.

SUSTAINED NORTHEAST WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO STEADILY INCREASE TO BETWEEN 25 AND 35 MPH... WITH GUSTS TO 50 MPH... ACROSS THE MOUNTAINS OF THE SOUTHERN APPALACHIANS BY LATE AFTERNOON. ELEVATIONS ABOVE 3000 FEET COULD SEE WIND GUSTS TO NEAR 60 MPH.

THE COMBINATION OF VERY WINDY CONDITIONS AND THE ANTICIPATED HEAVY RAINFALL WILL HEIGHTEN THE THREAT OF DOWNED TREES ACROSS THE REGION. SATURATED SOIL WILL OFTEN WEAKEN THE ROOT STRUCTURE OF TREES... AND THE PREVIOUS TWO TROPICAL SYSTEMS TO HIT THE AREA COULD WELL HAVE LEFT MANY TREES IN AN ALREADY WEAKENED STATE. FALLING LIMBS AND TREES WILL LIKELY LEAD TO POWER OUTAGES ACROSS THE REGION.

AS THE REMNANTS OF JEANNE PULL AWAY TO THE NORTHEAST ON TUESDAY... WINDS WILL PICK BACK UP FROM THE NORTHWEST AT 25 TO 35 MPH... WITH SOME GUSTS TO NEAR 50 MPH IN THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS.

REMEMBER... A HIGH WIND WARNING MEANS HAZARDOUS WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE IMMINENT OR HIGHLY LIKELY. MOTORISTS DRIVING HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES OR TOWING TRAILERS SHOULD DELAY TRAVEL UNTIL THE HIGH WINDS DIMINISH....

And of course the faithful flood warnings...

THE REMNANT CIRCULATION OF TROPICAL STORM JEANNE WILL MOVE NORTHWARD THROUGH GEORGIA TODAY... AND SHOULD THEN TRACK NORTHEAST ACROSS THE PIEDMONT OF THE CAROLINAS TONIGHT THROUGH EARLY TUESDAY. BANDS OF HEAVY TROPICAL RAINFALL WILL SWEEP NORTHWARD INTO THE REGION TODAY WELL AHEAD OF THE CENTER OF CIRCULATION. HEAVY RAIN SHOWERS WILL BEGIN AFFECTING NORTHEAST GEORGIA AND UPSTATE SOUTH CAROLINA LOCATIONS DURING THE MORNING HOURS... AND THEN SPREAD INTO WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA THIS AFTERNOON. THE HEAVIEST DOWNPOURS WILL LIKELY OCCUR DURING THE EVENING HOURS... AS THE CENTER OF CIRCULATION OF THE REMNANTS OF JEANNE APPROACHES THE SAVANNAH RIVER. PRECIPITATION WILL BEGIN TO TAPER OFF FROM THE SOUTHWEST ON TUESDAY.

BASED ON THIS EXPECTED TRACK... WIDESPREAD RAINFALL TOTALS OF 3 TO 5 INCHES WILL BE LIKELY FROM THE BLUE RIDGE EASTWARD ACROSS THE PIEDMONT. RAINFALL AMOUNTS WILL DWINDLE SLIGHTLY FARTHER WEST IN THE MOUNTAINS TOWARD THE TENNESSEE BORDER... WITH ABOUT 2 INCHES EXPECTED FROM ROBBINSVILLE TO BRYSON CITY. UPSLOPE ENHANCEMENT FROM THE STRONG EASTERLY WINDS COULD PRODUCE LOCALIZED AMOUNTS UP TO 7 INCHES RIGHT ALONG THE EASTERN ESCARPMENT... AND ALSO IN THE UPPER SAVANNAH RIVER AREA... MAINLY NORTHWEST OF INTERSTATE 85.

THIS HEAVY RAINFALL WILL MAKE FLOODING INCREASINGLY LIKELY THROUGHOUT THE DAY... AND ESPECIALLY TONIGHT. MANY SMALL STREAMS AND CREEKS WILL LIKELY EXCEED BANKFULL... AND LOCATIONS ALONG MAIN STEM RIVERS COULD EXPERIENCE FLOODING BY EARLY TUESDAY. IN ADDITION... HEAVY RAIN ASSOCIATED WITH THE PREVIOUS TWO TROPICAL SYSTEMS HAS ALREADY WEAKENED THE SOIL IN STEEP TERRAIN. MUD AND ROCK SLIDES COULD POSE A SIGNIFICANT THREAT IF HEAVY RAINFALL AFFECTS THE HIGHER TERRAIN. IF YOU LIVE IN A GORGE... OR AT THE BASE OF A STEEP SLOPE... YOU MAY WISH TO PLAN AHEAD FOR EVACUATION IN CASE A WARNING IS ISSUED.
