Those Stupid Explore Canada Commercials
Is anyone sick and tired of those stupid Explore Canada commercials? You know, the one's where some obviously Canadian person pretend to botch a fake foreign accent in front of a green screen and tell you about the awesome time they had in Ballsack, Alberta last summer?
Man alive!
*Misspelling intentional

I think someone else started a thread about this a few weeks ago too. I guess they want to boost tourism. Seeing these commercials has made me appreciate the Panago pizza guy that much more .

I don't think it's that bad, but I've only seen this commercial once. And I've been watching the playoffs pretty regularily. Maybe they get more annoying if you've seen them more often...

I think they're kinda nice.
WAY better than that fatass who looks like my sister's boyfriend who looks like he's had WAY too many steak pizzas.

As I said in that thread, yes they are cheesey, but they get the point across.

As a traveller, i love them. I have had the luck to see every province in Canada, and I have been overseas a couple times. I find it sad when I meet canadians in Budapest that have never been West of the Quebec-Ontario Boarder, or East of Medicine Hat. I mean, this counrty is beautiful.....See it BEFORE you see the world.
I love those commercials!

Not surprising at all. The Canadian Tourism Council has been wanting to push a 'Canada-brand' strategy for a long time now, as the biggest segment of tourists in Canada are Canadians themselves.
Frankly, I think they should be directing these ads towards Americans. Their numbers are hovering dangerously low for Canaidan tourism these days.

I think they are good spots. They communicate their message in a very clear manner, they are obviously memorable and they have a good tagline. All elements of effective ads.
Not every commercial has to be side splittingly funny to do the job. In fact most ads that are too funny don't do the job because the humor overshadows the key messages and the product being advertised.
Key example: I've had a ton of people tell me to check out the Coors Light "Man Law" ads. I tried to find them online and couldn't. Finally I did and realized why it was difficult...the ads were for Miller Light, not Coors as everyone had told me. That doesn't happen with good ads.

Correction: French Canadian accent, and even then, a pretty over-the-top one. Speaking of which, the Egyptian and Italian both seem to have bad French-Canadian accents, too. I absolutely detest these commercials. Every time they come on, my wife and I discuss cancelling our planned road-trip out east and instead heading off to europe. If this is the best that Canada can do for tourism advertising, is there really anything worth seeing?
Newfoundland had a great simple tourism commercial a few months ago (maybe during the brier?), which simply had footage of all these beautiful towns along with the town name and either the population or the year it was founded. Very simple way of showing Newfoundland as being small, old and beautiful.

I think they're great. They make me think of all the wonderful places in Canada I have yet to see, and make me want to go there.

i dearly hope citizens of the countries featured in the commercials, don't find out what these commercials are saying...
despicable, made worse by the FACT that all the destinations shown are steeped in history and culture that canada cannot pretend to compare to.

I don't think the commercials are intentionally disrespecting those countries. They are simply saying it is easy to take for granted what is in your own backyard.
