Default (NorL) Sore losers in Edmonton...

Add another notch to the Battle of Alberta...

Last night's Vipers-Cracker Cats game. Our pitcher hits Greg Morrison in the top of the second. Edmonton responds by throwing at our players in the bottom of the inning, plunking two. Starts a brawl. Brawl cools down, then somebody says something, and a massive fight breaks out.

Edmonton then took their bats and went home. Calgary won by forefit, possibly the first in Northern League History.

Apparently our manager, Mike Bush, had his face stomped on by somebody, and has a pretty good gash on the side of his face to show for it. How much you wanna bet the Northern League is praying this afternoons game gets rained out?

TSN even showed footage of the brawl:

Wow. How many teams in the history of pro sports have actually "taken their ball and gone home".

I don't know what the standings are but I would LOVE to see the Crackercats miss out on the playoffs by a single game after quitting in this one.

I was listening to the game on the radio on my way to play slo-pitch. A Viper was hit in the bottom of the first. I hear Morrison get hit, and wondered if it was payback, but then was at my game. When I got back in my truck to go home after, they announced the Vipers had won 9-0 via forfeit.
The radio guy gave a step by step of what happenned (apparently the Managers got into the first fist-a-cuff, then they triggered the second one when they was a scuffle on the way to the club house.
The umps ordered the field cleared, and the CrackerCats went to the dressing room, the Vipers stayed in the dugout.
The Umps then went to the booth to watch replays and see what happenned, and ended up having to call league office to see how to proceed. By this time Edmonton players has alresfy showered and changed. The Umps gave Edmonton until 9:10 to retake the field, and when they didn't show it was a forfeit. At least that is how it was explained on the broadcast at about 9:15 last night.

I wondered if this wasn't a publicity stunt to get a big story in both cities, generate a bit more interest.

The Cracker-Cat and Vipers have already played pver a dozen games this year, so their may be some bad blood from that. But this has alot more to do with the defections of Morrison and Faust.

I can't confirm this, but I'm hearing the Crackers had so many players ejected they didn't have the personalle to continue.

Oh, and the Crackers clearly won the fight and our tougher then you weiner Calgarians . Today's game goes at 12:35. Might be a good time to check out the Vipers.

Some pretty stiff penalties out of this:

Both Managers, Busch and Bevington, got eight games.

Edmonton saw four players suspended a total of 38 games - including the pitcher that caused the entire thing, Rivard, suspended 20 games.

Calgary had three players suspended for 25 games.

79 games total worth of suspensions. yikes!

Sounds like Deadmonton did an impersonation of the 1976 Soviets against the Flyers.
