People don't see that Prince is a musical genius because he's an eccentric and so reclusive...Like MJ but not as bad and not a ped. Also, most of the stuff he releases on CD is crap and he keeps everything else to himself (rumors are there are hundreds of albums and fully produced music videos locked in his vault) He can play something like 20 different instruments at the level of musical virtuoso. Many prominent guitarists would say that Prince is one of the most underrated guitarists of all time (listen to that acoustic guitar clip I posted above) or look up the George Harrison Tribute or 2006 Brit Awards (their Grammys) where he flat out steals the show from all the British artists right at the beginning.

Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac was once inspired by a Prince song and called him up out of the blue to tell him about it and he just appeared in the studio right away: "I hung up, and he came over within the hour. He listened again, and I said, 'Do you hate it?' He said, 'No,' and walked over to the synthesizers that were set up, was absolutely brilliant for about twenty five minutes, and then walked out of my life for years. He was so uncanny, so wild, he spoiled me for every band I've ever had because nobody can exactly re-create - not even with two piano players-what Prince did all by his little self.

He's nutty, dresses fruity, is really short (like 5'2 so he wears heels), but I think he's one of the best muscians alive. He also married a Canadian girl 5 years ago and has a house near Toronto. He hung out on Much Music and totally loved those video booth things where you put a dollar in and you can say whatever you want and be on TV.

I don't have a problem with his music based on his persona. I don't care if he is a recluse or that he dresses fruity or that he is really short. None of those things effect my opinion of his music. I am basing my opinion on the music he has released that I have heard personally. I don't like it and don't see its mass appeal. If he does have albums of fully produced music that he keeps all to himself (a rumour which I have heard before), then great. I haven't heard any of it though, so I can't say that makes him a musical genius. However, if he can play instruments to the level of musical virtuoso as you say he can, then I supposed based on that, I may have to concede that he is musically gifted.
