How would you answer these questions?
"Fill in the blanks with the appropriate words (Islam, hellfire): Every religion other than ______________ is false. Whoever dies outside of Islam enters ____________." (1st grade)
"It is forbidden for a Muslim to be a loyal friend to someone who does not believe in God and His Prophet, or someone who fights the religion of Islam." (5th grade)
"As cited in Ibn Abbas: The apes are Jews, the people of the Sabbath; while the swine are the Christians, the infidels of the communion of Jesus." (8th grade)
"Jihad in the path of God -- which consists of battling against unbelief, oppression, injustice, and those who perpetrate it -- is the summit of Islam. This religion arose through jihad and through jihad was its banner raised high. It is one of the noblest acts, which brings one closer to God, and one of the most magnificent acts of obedience to God." (12th grade)

Wow. That's some pretty crazy stuff. If they weren't such a strong ally of us Westerner types, I'd really be spooked.

That IS pretty scary stuff coming from America's second-best friend in that region. But tell me--how does this tell us that Bush is not a fascist?
If anything, this shows us what the frightening end point of theocracy looks like--and should remind us that church and state ought always to be kept separate. That's not really Bush's credo--he wants church and state to be brought closer together.
This is a sobering picture of what lies at the bottom of that slippery slope, though. Thanks for that.

and this is supposedly a religion of peace?
but i agree with the above post, what Bush is trying to do bringing religion into state affairs is just the first step. the end result in his ideal world probably wouldn't be that dissimilar from what is happening over there. that's why when i hear stories about US public schools starting to teach creationism in their SCIENCE classes, it really ****es me off. because even though i'm not directly affected, the United States is supposed to be better than that, what with the seperation of church and state and whatnot

One could also look at historical texts of the other two Abrahamic religons and say the same thing.
There is a problem with the way Islam is being taught in some backwoods parts of the globe, but the same could be said about Christianity and other religons.
It's best not to generalize.

Regardless of what other religions teach, This thread is about Islamic teachings in the public school system in Saudia Arabia. Don't push the topic off course by bringing in offshot religions. We all know every religion has their fanatics. However, no other mainstream religion teaches such misgivings toward another non believer on the planet.
It is really terrifying that a country that is suppose to be a western ally is brain washing their citizens. And I agree that Bush is attempting to do the same. Good thing US presidents can only sit for 2 terms.

Maybe leave the moderating to the moderators.
Anyhow, did you even read the article? This isn't a "mainstream" religion. It's fundamentalist sect of one, but it doesn't represent the entire faith any more than, say, the Jehova's represent all of Christianity.

So you're saying that this text book reflects mainstream Islam? I would beg to differ.
I'm not even sure if it would be considered mainstream in Saudi Arabia. Even if it was, Saudi Arabians only make up a small minority of the world's muslims. (Most being found in South Asia, ie. Indonesia, Pakistan, and India).
It doesn't reflect the teachings of Islam in most regions where the religon is prevalent.

It represents the entire country of Saudia Arabia. 27 million people 90% who are Arab and almost 100% muslim. This country is considered a leader within the Arab Community. Its also considered a pro western country. So if one of our allies is this radical think of what the rest are like.
Oh but we will here dont paint them all with the same brush. Pakistan isnt like that. Try again. The only reason pakistan is not a fanatical regiem is because the leader decided to conduct a coup and take over the government. That government is heavly supported by the USA. Not to mention large portions of Pakistan are lawless.
As for India, the largest democracy, of the over 1 billion people that live there 80% are hindu and only 13% are muslim.
And it is mainstream in Saudia Arabia. ITs the PUBLIC school system.
You people do anything to back these fanatics up. No accountability, its all the USA's fault. I dont think you would be singing such a toon if you actually had to live in such a place.

But then again, Hoz never let facts get in the way of one of his anti-Islam rants has he?
If he was interested in 'balance', he'd acknowledge that some Western textbooks, including those published by and presumably used by Bob Jones University, are guilty of the the same demonization.

Were talking about SA here. I agree with you that every country, every religion has fanatics. But that is not what is being discussed is it. No. Its what is being taught in SA public ed.

Yes, but that still gives them the 3rd largest muslim population in the world (behind Indonesia, and Pakistan) at roughly 140 million.

What we teach our children is a reflection of society as a whole.
If it is being taught in public schools to all children means that it is sanctioned by those in power. So yes I would say this is a reflection of all the people in Saudi Arabia.

Who uses that trash? Certainly no public school. If it was used then yes those people would be as guilty of the same thing as Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia teaches this in their public schools to their children. It is quite sick.
