Stamps sign David Allen
... again...
http://calsun.canoe.ca/Sports/Footba...8/1586985.html
Hopefully there's no out clause like there was last year. Allowing him to leave during the playoffs? Real brain cramp...

Preventing Allen from packing up again this season is a two-year deal, plus an option, that will keep the 28-year-old in Red and White until at least 2008 when his NFL window of opportunity will have closed.

Wichita guy. Great family. As a returner I would think he'd be the cream of the crop in the CFL.

This is a guy who, in his short stay here last season, showed signs of how much better he is than a lot of guys in this league. I know he was very close to making a couple different NFL sqauds and that speaks to his ability. There are only a handful of guys you could say that about who play in our league, so obviously I think it's a great signing for the Stamps.
Allen showed the ability, albeit in four games, to do some things that no one else on our roster appeared to have in their repitoire. All season, we never consistently saw passing plays run for the guys coming out of the backfield. When he came here we saw some of that. He appeared to be a good running back but maybe even moreso, someone who could run out in the flat, catch the ball, hold onto it, and then get those precious 'yards after catch' that so many guys don't seem to be able to do.
So for anyone who is thinking, "Who is David Allen?" I think you should know this is not a minor move by the Stamps, he is a very good player. He brings another dimension to the offence and notwithstanding injury of course, will be a factor in the Stamps success this season. His addition gives them arguably the deepest set of backs in the league and opens up the playbook a bit more for Steve Buratto.

As long as he can hold onto the ball in the playoffs....
He was a godsend last year when injuries hit, nevermind he was pretty efficient..and the Stamps pretty much knew they were going to lose him near the end of the year due to him hoping for an NFL crack.
If he played another game, he wouldn't have been able to be eligable for the NFL last year.

Now we have a situation where a very good player wants to return here, and the Stamps already know what he can do in the CFL game and how he'll fit onto the team. All-in-all, great move.

A very good move by the Stamps. This is a guy that can run the ball and Catch it out of the backfield. As good as Joffery is at running the ball he just does not seem to be as dangerous catching it. This ability keeps the opposing team guessing.
Alot of competition for jobs on this years squad. Should be fun to see how it all shakes down.

They will be good, fotze. Higgins, Creehan, Buratto, Ted Hellard, it all starts from the top down. When the F-Troop was here, we were a joke. Before that we were one of the contenders every year.
These guys in charge now have done an amazing job of overhauling the roster with not only free agent, bigger name signings, but they've brought in a lot of guys who names aren't as well known who I'm particularly excited to see this year. Coby Rhinehart, Trey Young, Tony Stallings, Ben Kelly and Jermaine Chatman are a few names no one will know, but I think are going to be very good for us this year. Miguel Robede, our #1 pick from two years ago is here now, too.
You have a team here that has added a lot of depth, and youthful depth at that, over the past 16 months or so. We're 6 deep at the receiver/slot position, with only one of them being 30+ years of age. The Coe-Grace-Clark-White LB situation, one of the best in the league, is now complimented with a couple non-import young guys, Yeow and Calixte. The oldest guy in the defensive backfield is 29.
I'm not going to set here and talk about the o or d lines because that's not something I know much about. Most of the guys coming back were here last year so there's some more familiarity. There are a few holes, but every team has them. I think the Stamps goal should be to win the west. Edmonton will be strong as always, the Riders will be better but not scary better and BC is hanging by a thread now that Printers is gone because you just know the injury to Dave Dickenson is coming, it's just a matter of when.

Oh my how quickly things can change...today we find out a couple things to throw a wrench into the start of the year. George White might not be back as soon as we hoped and that Ben Kelly name I mentioned decided he didn't want to play football anymore. Damn.
Still will be a very good training camp though and very competitive with some new guys looking for spots that are all pretty much held by incumbents from last year.
fotze, I almost forgot to ask you. Can we expect to see you all hammered up at the season opener again this year?

^ the loss of George White is huge - he's our Mr Everything on defence, a good leader, speed, makes tackles...and is underrated on special teams too.
I don't think the loss of Ben Kelly will be too bad. Chatman, Rhinehart, Walton, Boese, Young all impressed me WAY more than Kelly. It'll be cool

Didn't go anywhere TOTF, he's in town right now. He suffered a torn achilles tendon in the offseason. Initially they said he would only miss a few weeks at the start of the season but now the rumor is he could be gone for the year.

Stamps have a few good prospects in to pay Linebacker. Hopefully one of them works out..I am not to worried about it yet. Abduallahs younger brother seems to be rising to the top so far. Sure hope White comes back before the season ends. Guy was solid and a main cog at LB. just means the other 3 will have to pick it up.
