Free Legal Advice?

I've recently gotten myself into some criminal legal problems, theft under $5,000 (I'm an idiot that just didn't put his foot down and say no when a friend asked if he could take some stuff through my til at work). So I'm wondering if anyone knows of any numbers where I can get free legal advice regarding problems such as these? I've heard some people talking about 1-800 numbers and stuff but can't find many, and the ones I have are for people with REALLY low incomes.

Also, any general advice, or similar stories are welcome.

Law Library - you can do your own research and they have pamplets. You could do all your work and help yourself if you are resourceful enough.

Student Legal Services in Edmonton at (780) 492-2226 and Calgary Legal Guidance at (403) 234-9266 might have some law students who could give you a few free pointers.

If you live in or near Calgary, try Student Legal Assistance. For full-time students it's free. For everyone else, as long as you qualify as sufficiently needy, it's only about 30 bucks. http://www.fp.ucalgary.ca/SLA/

You could also give Legal Aid a try if you are in a bit of jam for money.
