Mexico set to decriminalize pot and cocaine!
Wow...the Touristas will boom down in Tiajuana! So how long do you think itll be before the good ole USA will get their fingers into this? My bet is less than a month.
I wonder how much these addicitons will cost Mexivcan society!
Possessing marijuana, cocaine and even heroin will no longer be a crime in Mexico if the drugs are carried in small amounts for personal use, under legislation passed by the Mexican Congress.
Under the legislation, police will not penalize people for possessing up to 5 grams of marijuana, 5 grams of opium, 25 milligrams of heroin or 500 milligrams of cocaine.
The legal changes will also decriminalize the possession of limited quantities of other drugs, including LSD, hallucinogenic mushrooms, amphetamines and peyote -- a psychotropic cactus found in Mexico's northern deserts.
Mexico legalizes!
1 ounce = 28.3495231 grams

I'll be down there in less than 24 hours. I'll be sure to report back (maybe)

Sounds like a great way to stimulate an already lagging economy.
Isn't the idea to get MORE productivity out of the employees, not LESS? I didn't think Mexico could lag even farther behind. Guess I'm wrong.

What? That Bush is gone or the Republicans are screwed? They'd have to come up with some more "making Jesus cry" intiatives on their ballots to get thier base back out in the swign states.

Bush is not gone for another 32 months, but if he loses control of the Senate in November, which is likely, he'll be a lame duck president for his final two years in office, much like Clinton was.

I'm just saying the Republicans will still be tough to beat in 2008, if they run the right candidate. I'm not sure what you're even talking about with the makind jesus cry in the swing states stuff.

If they run McCain in 08, they could be looking for another 8 years in the White house.
Whatever you think of the Republican party, McCain is liked by a lot of demos/swing voters.

I like him too. He was my choice over Bush in the 2000 primary. I think he's a little too old though. He could run.
They need to stay away from the Frists and Brownbacks of the world.

According to a very few of my friends, cocaine seems to be the next recreational drug around campus. No idea why. Dumb cokeheads.

In 2004, most of the swing states had a gay marriage intiative on the ballot.

It really scares me to be honest. I mean I am not about to get all high and mighty about substance abuse, I mean I drink a moderate amount a week. I would never touch coke but a few people I hang with are doing that stuff every weekend. Scary stuff.

I think legalizing drugs will actually lessen the harmful impact of drugs on society. The numbers in Amsterdam show that despite Marijuana being all but legalized, that the amount of habitual users didn't increase because of the relaxed enforcement. There is roughly the same amount of marijuana users now as there was before decriminalization.
What you would cut down on however, is crime directly related to the drug trade. Less gang slayings and wars.
Then if you go whole hog and actually legalize and legislate it, then the government would be able to use money earned from the sale of drugs to create social programs to help drug addicts, and promote safe drug use.
People are going to do drugs no matter what, so it makes more sense having that money from their sales flow into responsible hands, then spend billions fighting the inevitable.

Couldn't have said it any better. For the 1000th time, prohibition does not work.
