I spent a great weekend just outside Kaslo, BC. We stayed at Wing Creek Cabins http://www.wingcreekcabinsresort.com

If I remember correctly, they have four cabins. The best cabin is the Premium Cabin, its a little farther away from the others, and has a BBQ! We stayed in that cabin, and I think its worth the upgrade. We stayed at Wing Creek because we wanted to get away to some hot springs, but not stay in a touristy area. Ainsworth Hot Springs is about a 45 minute drive, and several more in the vicinty. A day in Nelson is a great day too.

About 8 hrs either way you look at it, in from the north via Revelstoke, or from the south via Cranbrook.

I think its a great place to get away.

I don't know if you want to come out this far, but Gabriola island is the least "touristy" of the gulf islands. This is a fantastic place to spend a weekend.

The cabins have a wonderful view of the ocean, you can watch the ferries crossing between Nanaimo and Vancouver. Friendly island, nice hiking, beachcombing, etc. Check out the Malaspina galleries if you go, a nice place for a swim.

We vacationed here last summer and are going again this year.

It's located on the east shore of Kootenay Lake ~30km north of Creston. Great sand beach right outside the door. Cabin is cozy and well appointed but not what I would consider luxurious. Here's the best part and it isn't a joke. The Neidermayer brothers have their summer homes about 200 yards south of the cabin. We plan on taking signs to taunt them with this summer.
