Default Grooming the (playoff) beard

Hello to all of the CP faithful.

I've seen many on here mention they would be participating in the playoff beard ritual now that that time of year is here. So that is why I'm here today. I've never tried to grow a beard before, let alone a playoff beard so I'm looking for general advice on how to manage this thing.

The thing I notice the most right now how much it itches. What do you do about that? If I couldn't feel it, I'm sure it wouldn't be much of a concern for me. I don't want to shave it until the Flames playoffs end, whenever that may be. But right now I'm thinking I'm only going to last another day or two before the itching drives me to a point where I have to shave it or light my face on fire, whichever mood happens to strike me first.

Right now that's my only real concern as it's only a week old and not really thick yet. But, any of you beard-wearers out there who might be kind enough to pass along some grooming tips, I would appreciate it.

The itching will pass. Like any other area you shave, it gets to a point where it starts to itch, then moves past it.

Yeah, you will get used to the itching. The only advice I have is make sure you dont get any gross ingrown hairs.

I'm still debating if I am gonna at least shave my neck this time around. I guess we'll see how far they go. Last time it was pretty ridiculous.

I'm growing one, had the goat first, trimmed that down and now have the full beard going. I shaved my neck and tightened it up on the cheeks for work. Kevanguy, you looked like grizzly adams with that beard

You've got to shave below your jaw line and your neck. Not that I'm the hair dude off queer eye for the straight guy, but you don't want to look like too much of a neandrethal.

I was wondering about that. The players themselves don't shave any area on their face from my understanding. Maybe I'm wrong on that one though. Grizzly Adams I shouldn't have to worry about, I can't see it getting that thick.

Oh man...tempting but I'm gonna leave this one alone.

EDIT: And before I get in trouble my mind was not in the gutter on this.

Anyways, I can only grow patches, despite the fact that I've been able to grow hair everywhere else for a few years now. Either way, looks like I'm going to have to leave the neck hairs alone for impact purposes.

Your six neck hair will not make up for the peach fuzz on your cheeks, sorry.

As of this morning my growth (I can't justify calling it a beard) has finally stopped itching. (yay!)

Speaking of playoff beards, has anybody seen the new Bell ad? I was watching the Flames game at the bar and they had the Oilers game on with no sound, and I just sat there wondering what kind of inuendo they were going to use showing a shaved beaver.

It's beyond lame like all their beaver ads:

Beaver in change room asks something about the game.
Beaver with beard (Norm McDonald) says something like the team was doing so well in the first and then couldn't get anything right after that and he doesn't know why.
Dumb beaver comes out with shaved beard
Norm freaks out on him and says something like what are you crazy?
Dumb beaver says he started out spot waxing and it got out of hand.

So he's saying he got a dropped connection with Bell. That's great advertising.

Almost as good as the one where the Norm beaver says "Good thing we're locked into the contract"- meaning he knows that even thought they aren't living up to what they promised when they signed the deal; Bell is stuck with them for the remained of the contract.

So from the beaver ads I get that Bell has bad contracts, and drops calls.

That's the way to do it. I have the cheeks trimmed down and the neck shaved as well. I actually get a lot of compliments on it and people tell me I should keep it. I'm not so sure myself though...

Just let her grow.

I think. It does get annoying after a while, especially if you look in the mirror.

I'm a neck-shaver myself, although I haven't had to yet.

The last playoff run was the first time I went more than three days without shaving since I was 16. It came in pretty good though, but I finally broke down and shaved my neck / jaw-line.

This time I'm not going to suffer at all. Jaw-line / Neck get shaved tonight, overall beard is still in-tact and my support for the Flames has never run deeper !!

i agree with the above sentiments: the terms "grooming" and "playoff beard" are mutually exclusive
