Default Advice on Car Pick-a-Part type places...

I need a new power door lock switch for my wife's 96 Explorer. The piece is roughly one inch square and is a simple three wire bi-direction contact switch. It's probably worth about $0.25 to manufacture (being generous), but it turns out that Ford wants $59.87! for it, and says it will take 4-6 weeks to get it in.

I've heard there are a few pick-a-part type places in town but have never been to one. Any recomendations from the do-it-yourselfer's in the croud?

Thanks.

I like Pick Your Part, on Barlow in the SE.

They have tons of cars, organized by Manufacturer. You take everything apart yourself, if you find a part you want.

Make sure to wear crappy shoes; it always seems to be a very muddy mess out in their yard.

One other suggestion- even though this is a small part you might want to grab a wheelbarrow on the way in for your tool box. The best way to find the vehicle you need is up and down the rows, and the tool box can get heavy. Plus you know you have a clean(ish) dry place to put stuff.

I take it you can grab one like a shopping cart? Good advice, thanks!

Yep, they are all at the front.

Oh, and an FYI- they check your tool box on the way in and then back out, so make sure you take out your crack pipe. (one of the most embarrasing monents of my life.)
