No offence, but a typical and stupid fear mongering article. The kind of paranoia the Bush administration needs out there to fuel their re-election bid.
The only reason this should be of any concern is because the Americans have now essentially legitemized an all out war with the muslim world (population: ~1,300,000,000). 4,000,000 innocents is a hell of a large step from ~2,200 people who manned the World Trade Centre, Pentagon, and (although not carried out) White House, on all sorts of grounds....

First of all...LA Times is firmly against Bush. And I think the premise about keeping nukes out of the hands of terrorists would go for whoever wins the election.
All out war against the Muslim world?
I am surprised you just didn't end with Damn Jewish-America conspiracy to take over the world!
And last of all you didn't read the entire article. Which is quite obvious.
Al Qaeda spokesman Suleiman Abu Gheith has stated Al Qaeda's objective: "to kill 4 million Americans — 2 million of them children — and to exile twice as many and wound and cripple hundreds of thousands."
Nearly 3,000 died in the Sept. 11 attacks. It would take about 1,334 similar assaults to reach 4 million. Or it could take one nuclear weapon.
Al Qaeda has made its intentions clear. America's challenge is to prevent the terrorists from succeeding.

Just curious...but didn't 9/11 "legitemize" a war against "the muslim world" using the same logic you apply to "Americans"?
Way to paint entire groups with one broad stroke.

The LA Times has an anti-Bush slant. Fairly undeniable.
However, this is not an LA Times produced article nor is it an LA Times editorial.
This is an article written by an outsider and published in the LA Times, probably in the interests of providing balance in the opinion pages.
The author is: By Graham Allison, Graham Allison is director of the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government. His new book is "Nuclear Terrorism: The Ultimate Preventable
In another thread, someone produced an article on the gassing of Kurds by Saddam they said was from the New York Times. As above, its neither produced by the staff at the Times nor is a Times editorial. It was written by an outsider and author of a book on the subject.
Al Qaeda spokesman Suleiman Abu Gheith has stated Al Qaeda's objective: "to kill 4 million Americans — 2 million of them children — and to exile twice as many and wound and cripple hundreds of thousands."
That statement is an attributable quote, not an opinion of the author.
It comes from this lengthy statement by Abu Gheith that makes for interesting reading. The goal of killing 4 million Americans is at the bottom.:

But, but , but..... Cow?
The media is controlled by government and/or corporations both liberal and conservative, and no real balance exists...at least according to the conspiracy theorists.
Guess this was one that slipped through the editors charged with making sure truth doesnt it find its way to viewers/readers huh?
