J-walking! It has GOT TO STOP!
So when a kid is sitting around, dreaming of becoming a cop, does he hope to one of the sorry ass biker cops, wearing spandex, handing out J-Walking tickets?
The one that gave me the $25 ticket this morning sure was proud to be doing it.
...We still don't have enough cops for Murders and Drug Trafficing, but goddammned, J-Walking has GOT TO STOP!!!

what's the old saying? Don't do the crime if you can't do the time? Wait the extra 30 seconds and go when the walk light is up.

When I was in the police station the other day they said there was already 5 or 6 pedestian deaths so far this year. Last night there was another.
It's a hard lesson I had to learn when I moved from Winnipeg; don't J Walk in Calgary.

You'd change your story if you stepped out on the road and were squashed by a panel van wouldn't you.
Its a public safety issues, I don't know how many times I've had to jam the brakes because some idiot is too fricken lazy to walk 20 feet to a cross walk and wait for the lights to change.
Sorry man, I don't have any sympathy for you, I'm happy the cops snagged you, but the ticket should have been larger.

You mentioned how you got the ticket, but not what you were doing. If you were jaywalking, why are you complaining? Because you got caught?
Man up and accept it.

I'd personally have no problem getting a jay-walking ticket, if I was jay-walking, AND *note the and* tickets were given out for failure to yeild to a pedistrian
however I'm also from small town East Coast, as long as you're not obstructing traffic, jay-walk to your hearts content

Why do people always bring up murders and crime when they get a ticket?
Is the idea that there are more important crimes, so mine can be overlooked?

"STOP IT! STOP JAYWALKING"
"I'M A COP YOU IDIOT"
You think that's bad? On my way home from game seven (to Lethbridge), I got pulled over for speeding just outside Claresholm:
Cop: Where are you going?
Me: Heading home to Lethbridge (point to jersey) I'm a little dissapointed.
Cop: Well I've got no sympathy for you...I'm an Oilers fan.
I had a burnt out tail light too. Still despite the fact he had no sympathy, he gave me a break. I'll take a break over sympathy anyday.

I use 11 Avenue DT quite often and jaywalkers seem to be a real problem. And I am not talking addicts, but suits from nearby offices. My girlfriend recognized one of her company's executives jaywalking a couple of weeks after they had this big safety meeting over such things.
Sure, you can jaywalk as far as I am concerned, but first purchase insurance which will pay for scraping you off my car, fixing it, and for my physical/psychological treatment. The same goes for cyclists who weave through traffic. I have to pay if I run you over, so you pay if you cause me to run you over.

Everyone uses that arguement when they get caught by the cops for something, "why aren't they out there getting the murderers and drug dealers instead."

Suck it up sister!!
I deal with pedestrian safety and your complaint is a load of BS. Suck it up you whiner!
You’re the type of person that deserves to be hit by a car.
I assume your high school age or slightly older as they are the worst offenders thinking they are immune to getting hit. Perhaps all the video games you play have desensitized yourself to the reality of getting hit by a car.
Regardless of how drivers act, you are the only one who is responsible for yourself.
I will say one thing about the cops though. Those buggers are scared to issue a "Failing to Yield to a Pedestrian" ticket because it carries a $575 fine. We can thank the province for that!!!
Point, Pause and Proceed!!!

The cyclists bug me more than the jaywalkers. You're supposed to give them room and respect, treat them like other traffic. I've been given a one-fingered salute before for passing them too close but it really frosts my flakes when they come flying in between rows of traffic or cruise down the sidewalk like pedestrians.

Well since we've moved on to things that bug us...
What bugs me is during rush hour pedesterians that cross when the Stop Hand starts flashing. This prevent traffic from flowing naturally because cars can never make the turn.
IF THE HAND IS FLASHING DON'T CROSS!!!!

No answers, where is he to defend himself against the other posts on this thread? Perhaps he's realized how dumb it was to complain about what happened.

Wow...and I thought your hockey posts were ludicrous. Tell me, is it lonely up there alone on your high horse? Seriously, the condescending tone that is implied in 90% of your posts is borderline trolling.
Anyhoo...
Why are you complaining about a $25 ticket. IMO, you got off light. I couldn't believe how many people I saw yesterday jaywalking in front of the C-Train. For how scary it is for people with cars, I can only imagine driving one of those things when some moron on a cell phone steps out in front of you.

The problem is those things are timed to accomodate Granny Smith's walking speed so they start flashing way too early. I'm not going to stand there staring at a green light for 30 seconds, and then a red light for 3 minutes, just because the hand is flashing.

would that be the other way around.. Granny smith would need more time to cross... thereby leaving the walk sign on longer?
Agree though sometimes the flashing hand comes on way to quickly sometimes.

Nope I agree... This city is ticket hell.... Welcome to hell. I do think our city can focus on something more than handing out fines. Have any of you been to SE Asia? Check out driving laws there! lol
