Albert Pujols putting together a record season
Albert Pujols is dominating like never before. 22 HR's puts him on pace for 82, which would shatter the record of 73 held by Bonds. He is also on pace for 203 RBI's.
What is even more impressive is how little he strikes out. He has just 12 K's to his name.
I don't think any full-time player has had a season with more Homeruns than strikeouts.
An .805 slugging % after 149 at-bats, the next closest player in that category with at least 100 at-bats is Alex Rios with .667%.
If he continues to hit HR's like this, we should be in for a great chase at the end of the season. Bonds' record could be in trouble.

Just another great season for a guy who has had nothing but great seasons since he came to the league five years ago.
As a Cards fan watching Pujols the past five years has been awesome and over the latter part of last and moreso this year seeing him be recognized as the great player he is by fans across NA is great to see.
He easily could have 3 MVP's already and has finished in the top 4 of MVP voting each of his first 5 years in the league. He has done things that no other player has done in their first 5 seasons.
He really is a great hitter to watch.

Baseball's credibility is tarnished. Why? The first thing that came to mind when I read this thread is.... "He is probably on steroids". Baseball has some cleaning up to do.

There is no reason to conclude Pujols is on steroids. He's been a monster for 6 seasons, ever since he started. He has had almost the same size since then too.
It's disgusting that a player can't be great without these accusations.

This guy is awsome, I really hope that he totally shatters Bonds* record. Ever since the Cards went to the finals against the Red Sox I've known Albert Pujols could be great. Not that I'm an expert or anything, I only started paying attention to Baseball seriously in 2004, I can thank Albert Pujols for that (not to forget the Red Sox also)

I'm surprised that teams are still pitching to him, though with the offensive lineup the Cards have, they might not have much of a choice.
I was interested to hear that there were some questions about his actual age, something about it perhaps being different from what his birth certificate says. This does seem to come up a fair bit with Latin ball players, though it does seem kind of unlikely to me. Seems a bit fishy that these allegations are coming up while he's putting up these monster numbers.

Well Pujols continues to put up better numbers every year even though baseball is cracking down on the use of illegal substances. Fact is in his first 4 years he hit at least .315 with a minimum of 34 homers and 117 RBI. Those are triple crown type numbers, and Pujols is a once in a generation type of hitter. If guys like Bonds, McGwire, Sosa hadn't juiced up and put up outrageous totals we'd have a better perspective for what Pujols was doing previous to this season.

Wow.. this guy at the end of his career could very well end up with the all time HR recored. If he keeps up his torrid pace...
I dont really know baseball history but who has more HR's at this point in their career than Pujols?? just to see how he matches up.

Ken Griffey Jr had 238 by the time he turned 27.
A-Rod had 241 by his 27th Bday.
Pujols is 26 (he'll be 27 by the time this season is done) right now and he has 224, so he will likely break the mark A-rod set (A-rod is also the player in MLB history with the most HR before age 31). I think these guys are the fastest.
A-Rod did it in 952 Games.
Griffey did his in 1057 games.
Pujols has only played 833 games in his career.

The key obviously is for him to stay healthy. Griffey looked for years like he would challenge the record, but couldn't stay healthy and lost too many of his prime years. One of the biggest challenges with records such as this is durability.
Baseball though could REALLY use this guy to break the season record so there a record that fans perceive to be legitimate.

I used to work with a guy from the Dominican Republic, he said it was pretty easy to get a phony birth certificate. Carlos Baerga was the name he always brought up (he's born in Puerto Rico, but it's supposedly the same there). It says he was born in 1968, my pal Ramon says closer to 1962 or 63.

I wasn't accusing him of being on steroids. I was commenting on baseball's image. Anytime somebody does well for himself you're going to wonder if he is on steroids. Some of the biggest hitters of the past decade or more were either caught or are alleged to have taken steroids. You can't blame a person for wondering the same for any other player who does well.

He moved to the States when he was in Jr High so I doubt his age can be that far off as it would have been suspicious to have a 19 year in grade seven but I guess he could be one or two years older. Still is amazing what he is doing.

Well, he needs only 39 more home runs to beat the legitimate single season HR record.

Pujols is a great player. I dont think he'll break the home run record this year though but hope he does. Pitchers will probably start walking him alot more..especially in the summer time/after the all star game.
