Manning to man the helm?
With King Ralph now hinting he may leave early, Preston Manning is now hinting at possibly running to lead the AB conservatives.

Klein originally said he would remain at his job for another two years. Now, the premier says he will take a few days to consider what's best "for the party, the province and for me." That was enough of a hint to open the gates to a host of leadership hopefuls, including the biggest surprise, Manning, former leader of the defunct Reform party.

Personally, I like Manning, I just hope Oberg doesnt succeed Klein.

I saw Manning speak in the early 90's at McMaster, and at that time he gave off a very strong "snake-oil salesman" vibe. He's a politician, so I guess it was to be expected.

Alberta needs Manning. The Conservatives, who are probably going to be in power for another 500 years, need a facelift desperately.
The political face that Alberta presents to the rest of Canada also needs a facelift desperately. Manning the intellectual looks alot better than Ralph the drunk.

Manning is actually a few months older than Klein. Both are 64 this year.
It would be nice to see Alberta go with someone a little more moderate than Manning. Heck, even Klein is more moderate.

Klein? he's a red tory for sure. Manning is WAAYYY more right wing than Klein.. heck, Klein is really a liberal. witness the spending per capita this government has spent. Makes most liberals blush. Klein being right wing is the biggest joke of the last 6 years.

Right wing for taxes maybe... What else?
It would be nice to have a premier who actually gives a damn about democratic principles.

It's no secret that Preston Manning is openly both a fiscal and social conservative.
His social conservatism was one of the major reasons for the right wing fissure that occured for most of the 90s. If you read his book, you will find that he has little desire to compromise with anyone who is not a strong conservative.
I'm not saying that he is Hitler, but he isn't what I would define as a moderate. Like I said, Klein is closer to moderate than Manning.

Preston Manning? I thought we were looking to re-energize Alberta politics with new blood/ideas, not some rehashed version of a guy who has been saying the same thing for 3 decades.

Manning is a really funny, down to earth guy. He was Mike Bullard once (yes I know lame) but he was absolutely hilarious.
