Default Telus TV

Has anybody tried this service yet? I got the pamphlet the other day, and wondering if it's worth switching over from shaw, especially since i don't have a cable box or anything.

Well I work for Telus Mobility..... but I'm seriously upset I can't get it right now. I used to have it when I lived downtown and LOVED it. You get the convenience of Digital Cable but with the choice of satellite, but better. IIRC, (if they still allow it,) when you get a 7 channel package, you can swap some channels out. For example, I got the Popular Choices bundle, (I think that's what it was called,) but knew I would never watch Court TV, so I swapped in the NHL Network instead for FREE! That's something you just can't get elsewhere. And it's about the same price as digital cable as well.

I was wondering about this too. We have shaw digital and I am wondering if it's worth a look at switching over.

I just liked the fact that you don't have to buy the whole package just to get ONE channel. You can get just the one channel as part of a different bundle. It's great. Stupid Inglewood with it's old phone lines.

One thing to be aware of is that the picture is optimized for 27" TVs, so if your TV is larger the picture will be streched and the quality will be reduced.

Is any of this information available on the internet or just through this Telus pamphlet? I haven't seen the pamphlet, likely because I'm in a dumpy apartment by the university, but I'm moving to Huntington at the end of the month. The wife and I were contemplating upgrading our TV experience to digital/HD but this development presents an interesting (potential) alternative. Where can I get more info?

My girlfriend has it and I don't really like it. There's a lot of lag when you switch channels and a lot of the time the sound doesn't coincide with the picture. Plus there's no HD... maybe I'm just bitter because she doesn't have the sports package...

I'd switch to it in a second if it had Centre Ice. Stupid lousy Shaw

I don't think I would get digital cable, satellite, or now Telus tv because of the lag between changing. I hate that. I like to just go around the horn a few times during commercials.

It sucks.

No more than 2 TVs at one residence.
Must subscribe to Telus phone and I-net to get TV.
Up to 5 second lag when changing the channels. The box has no info, it has to download the guide etc every time you change the channel. Very annoying.
Must sign contract.
When watching TV your internet slows down to a crawl - one pipe, shared bandwith. Not sure what happens to the phone
No HDTV.
No VOD etc.

Did I mention it sucks?

DCT 2500 or better are very fast. The 6412 is almost like running no box at all.

Has anyone else signed up for this yet? As of now they're not offering HD but at some point they say they will. According to the CSR I was speaking with they are hoping to have it sometime by the end of this year but as of yet have no idea of pricing, channels, or if I signed with them if I would be able to switch and get a HD receiver.

My uncle has Telus TV. I was over at his house for a few hours, surfing channels and the lag was horrible. It seemed like four or five seconds went by before the channel change.

The packages are okay, but I'd rather pay for the one channel I want and be done with it.

Who knows - this could change if they bring over HD.

From what I've seen, I'm not overly impressed. I understand it is still in a "beta" type stage and that many improvements will be made.
