Jack Van Impe = Huge Idiot
I just watched this tard's show on some channel (VSN I think) and I'm thoroughly convinced that both he and his exoskeleton wife (Rexalla) are two of the biggest idiots in the history of the world. I really hope that nobody takes this guy seriously.
If you've never seen this stuff before they essentially just throw up headlines from around the world but give their own analysis without reading the articles. In thirty minutes he:
1) tried to convince everyone that the EU was the antichrist
2) said how Bird Flu and AIDS will be the pestilence in the apocalypse
3) used numerology to show how computers and a few other words (like arab suicides) added up to 666
4) condemned Brazil for it's stance on safe sex (handing out condoms openly and what not)
5) tried to show how the Da Vinci code is all wrong (no **** sherlock, it says right in the book that it is a work of fiction)
This guy is all over the board and I would be seriously concerned if someone even believed one tenth of the stuff he spews out. Has anybody else seen this guy before?

Haha, Jack Van Impe (and his wife) are hilarious! Jimmy Kimmel always shows clips of them on his show. Jack tells the strangest jokes, and that Rexella is just creepy!
If anyone cares to check them out they produce a 30 minute 'news' program that is pretty funny http://www.jvim.com/tv/

Holy crap, I had no idea that you could watch these on the net as well. You're right in that the show is downright hilarious assuming you have a level head on your shoulders.

There are a lot of people who don't realize it is fiction though.
Besides that, the book does have many lies in it that it tries to pass off as facts in the story, such as blaming the Catholic church for witch hunts.

this is news?
guy has a serious following. world seems always on the brink, we're a comin' lord!
just buy our tapes / books / whatever!
what's crazy is that there's major, major segments of the right wing political movement in the states, that is trying to push for the endtime, the fall of the third temple, plains of meggido, etc. so that they can bring the messiah - jack van impe isn't as far out of the mainstream as people think he is, just more vocal and more loud with his hopes and dreams.

first of all,
NOWEHERE did i say ALL christians are jack van impe disciples.
but why would i have to lump all christians together, when they do it themselves?
ever hear of the 'christian coalition'? lots of voters have. most of them would describe themselves as christians.

ABESHOUSE: Parshall is what is known as a "Christian Zionist," a Christian who believes that God gave the biblical land of Israel to the Jews, and it belongs solely in Jewish hands. In the Christian Zionist view this will lead to the return of the Christian messiah, Jesus. That event is called the Second Coming.
Christian Zionists say it is all in the Bible. First the Jews hold all of biblical Israel, then Jesus returns.
PARSHALL: We will never limp, we will never wimp, we will never vacillate in our support of Israel.
ABESHOUSE: Support for Israel in the view of Christian Zionists means support for Jewish settlements on the West Bank. And it means opposition to any peace settlement that would give any land to Palestinians.
PARSHALL: Whoever came up with the idea of land for peace has a very interesting definition of that. Apparently to some people's way of thinking it means giving Israel away one piece at a time.
ABESHOUSE: The hard-line views of Christian Zionists are getting a lot of attention in Washington. Evangelical voters make up close to half of President Bush's political base. And many evangelical leaders express Christian Zionist views.
One is broadcaster Pat Robertson.
ROBERTSON: I'm just convinced that God gave this land to the Jewish people. I believe the Bible, I believe the prophets, I believe what it says, it is clear, there is no mistaking it: the Unites States cannot stand against God's wishes.

The Christian coalition is a HUGE political power broker in the excited states, maybe the biggest - grassroots to high level lobbyism with lots of cash and lots of media outlets.
the second coming is the fall of the third temple of judea.
for those keeping score, there have been two.
this kind of stuff, behind the scenes but there for anyone that looks for it, scares the evercrapping hell outta me.

There are lots of 'born again christians' who buy into the 'end of times' story. I guess they can believe whatever they want, but they are influencing the political system, and the thing I don't like is they don't have to be responsible for tomorrow because they believe Jesus is going to save the world, so who cares if the environment degrades or the economy goes in the crapper, or the so called infidals are killed off in wars. I'm one of the chosen ones and everybody else don't count. not
If by some chance Jesus does come and they find out he doesn't solve everything, he only teaches them how to solve things for themselves, they'll try and nail him to the cross again.

These guys are all nuts. I hope you stayed tuned to Vision to see Peter Popoff's miracle spring water which if you drink or sprinkle will give you health and prosperity.
Popoff was exposed in the 80s in that hilarious expose where he pretended to do faith healing by knowing audience members by name and miraculously had insights into their lives as he "healed them" live - turns out his wife was reading their prayer cards (filled out as requisite for entry into convention or service) over secret radio frequencies to him. He was reeling in 4-5 Million in revenue for this.
The difference is that I'm pretty much sure Jack Van Impe believes wholeheartedly in what he's selling and Popoff is just your typical rip-off televangelist - his miracle spring water is worse than an infomercial.

That's not neccessarily false although I don't know how it's presented in the story.
Back to JVI - don't you guys find Rexalla freaky? I mean she's 75! She must have more plastic done on her than Cher. JVI has said some positive things and is generally more relaxed and less fundamental in his inclusivity of other Christians - I think he accepts the Catholics unlike most fundamentalists.
He also said of Pat Robertson "we don't need an Osama Bin Laden leading us".

Well, JVI also predicted the apocalypse was going to happen when the calendar turned to the year 2000. I use to watch the show for fun for a few years. I've lost count of the number of different anti-christs he has had. First it was going to be the newly elected Russian leader, then it was going to be a palestinian leader that united the middle east, now it's the leader of the EU in 5 years it will be someone else....

It is false.
Most witch hunts occurred in Protestant regions. Germany, Switzerland, English colonies (the last major one in Salem, a Puritan colony), etc... Catholic nations, like France, Italian States, and Ireland had very few witch trials during those years.
In the story, at one point as background information, it is says that witch trials were orchestrated by the Catholic church, which is simply not true. Puritans and Calvinists were responsible for most.
