You know things are pathetic when all star Donald Brashear scores your team's only goal. Stellar, indeed.

Game story later tonight.

Jets with a huge comeback late in the 3rd only to fall in double OT, what a great series this is turning out to be. Congrats to the Oil and Flames for advancing. More details on the Wild double OT win later.

Winning the 4th game is tougher than it looks!

Flames sweep Ducks
Flames 6 Ducks 5

Well, I guess you take it anyway you can get it, but Flames did not look sharp in Game 4 of the 1st round of the playoffs.

Gotta hand it to the Ducks, they came out flying in this game, catching the Flames and more specifically Miikka Kiprusoff napping. Kipper who had been stellar in the first three wins of this series, was caught making Peking Duck behind the Flames net and before you could say, Sushi , it was 3-0 Ducks. However the Flames pressed on and went into the third period with Mo Mentum and Schootzpah behind them. As the Flames were killing a penalty in the third period, Jeff O'Neill tipped a cross ice pass from Scott Hannan and raced passed the D to put it top shelf on Goalie Chris Osgood. The Ducks never recovered as Brian Boucher replaced Kipper. Boucher was stellar in the third period, stopping 4 of 4 shots.

Flames ole crew take a bit of a break now and await their next opponent. Flames being as old as they are will be filling up the ole massage room until the outcomes of the other series are decided.

Hats off to the Ducks who played a stellar series!!

Goalie Statistics

Miikka Kiprusoff (FLA), 14 saves out of 19 shots, W, 4-0-0
Brian Boucher (FLA), 4 saves out of 4 shots
Roberto Luongo (DUC), 14 saves out of 19 shots
Chris Osgood (DUC), 5 saves out of 6 shots, L, 0-2-0

Power Play Conversions

FLAMES 0 for 3
DUCKS 0 for 4

Game Stars
1 - Curtis Brown (DUC)
2 - Jeff O'Neill (FLA)
3 - Glen Murray (FLA)

Oil end Canuck dreams

Series ends in four games, Oil advance to the Howe Quarter Finals for the third year in a row.

Martin Brodeur the best closer in the business allows only one goal in game four. Allowing only 10 all series. Martin Ended it with a .915 save%.

“Closing a series is an art” said first game star Karel Rachunek, who set up the game winner, series winner, and added the insurance goal at 19:22 of the second period. “With a two-goal lead going into the third, we felt if we played well behind our own blue line and gave Martin a chance to see everything. We had a good chance of going home with the series”.

The Oil scored their third SH goal of the series. And only their fourth PP goal of the series…. Hitting the back of the net was not a problem in this series as the oil out scored the Canucks 20 – 10. Chasing Biron from the net three out of the four games.

The Oil now sit back and enjoy the rest of the first round, where we will await our next victim.

Hats off to the Canucks who despite giving up 32 point diff in the regular season (Oil ranked 2, Canucks ranked 17), and having too many injuries to really get anything going in the playoffs……. Played a great series…… Congrats to the Canucks for getting into the post season,,,, and good luck on the Coast in the future.

OT Thriller!

Perhaps the Wild should simply play for OT because they seem to excel once the extra frame starts.

Minnesota picked up its second OT win of the series in Wednesday’s 5-4 win over the Jets to knot the series at 2 games a piece.

Marian Hossa played the role of hero ending the affair at 6:51 of the second overtime.

Meanwhile Curtis Joseph, in for a re-injured Dominik Hasek held the fort stopping 48 of 52 shots including 16 OT shots. The Jets had two powerplay opportunities in the first overtime but were unable to end it.

The other hero for the Wild was Trevor Letwoski who had a 3 points in the game.

The Wild played without the service of Jeremy Roenick who was activated from IR after the game.

The pivotal game 5 goes Friday.

HOSSA TIES SERIES!

THE WILD CELEBRATE!
WILD 5 JETS 4 DOUBLE OT~SERIES TIED 2-2.

The Minnesota Wild won a game that they had to win. Marian Hossa scored 6:51 into the second overtime period to win it for the Wild.

The Winnipeg Jets played their worst game of the series, falling behind 4-2 just 2:31 into the third period. But after a quick time out, the Jets regrouped and found life but coming back and forcing overtime with 2 goals late in the third period.

The Jets got goals from John Leclair, Stu Barnes, Sandis Ozolinsh, and Scott Young. The Wild’s scorers included: Trevor Letowski, Dan Sedin with a pair, Mats Sundin, and Marian Hossa.

This series is starting to become a real war with both teams exchanging scoring chances, great saves, and wins. Its now a best of 3, with game 5 Friday in Minney.

The Ducks would like to congratulate the Flames for winning the series and wish them the best of luck in the next round.

Only postive thing the Ducks did was shutout the Flames on their powerplay.

The Ducks would be open to a best of 9 series if the Flames would be open to it.

As you were…

(Vancouver) AP – The Vancouver Canucks had to leave, but they didn’t want to. The atmosphere after the game was not of a team that had been swept, but an atmosphere of appreciation. The crowd gave their heroes a standing ovation after the Edmonton Oilers celebrated their series win. The walked wounded had a lot to be proud of. It was an emotional season on many levels. The Canucks went into this series without a few of the regulars, named Eaton and Perreault. By the second game of the series, the Canucks lost Team MVP Dvorak. The third game proved to be ominous as well, as they lost Rucinsky and GM favorite, Nilson. It just wasn’t meant to be.

After the game, GM Mango was seen shaking hands with the Edmonton win, congratulating him on the series win. “They were outstanding”, she told the media. “When looking at the standings all season, who was at the top of the Howe conference? Edmonton. They are the personification of consistency. I wish them the best throughout the playoffs.” When GM Mango was asked about her plans for the team, she half smiled and said “I’m proud of these guys. They might not be the biggest names in the CPHL but they did as they were asked. They found amazing team chemistry. In fact, the best chemistry I’ve seen during my time as a GM. We’ll see what happens.”

Thanks for a good season, boys. See you in September.

PS - To those other GMs who supported my team, thank you. I know who each of you are and I'm more than happy to cheer for your team in return.l

WINGS DEFENSE SHUTS DOWN PREDS

Mike Dunham was again at the top of his game as he turned aside all but one Nashville shot. "its easy to make saves when your defense is doing all the work. I was able to see every shot and the d-men took away any second chance they could of had." Detroit who took just 3 penalties on the night to Nashville's 6. However one of the penalties was a 5 minute major and another was a 4 minute double minor. "There coach can try and downplay this series by saying the refs are picking on them. But if ya want to play back alley hockey we can do that too." Claims Detroit captain Todd Bertuzzi fresh off his one sided tilt with the bloodied Eric Cairns. The bad guys are expected to get number one d-man the Jolly Green giant back for the next game, however as herd on the Fan 960 tonight its rumored Chara could be out another 1-2 weeks with a boo boo on his hand. The series now shifts back to Nashville where it has become a best of three.
