Hmmm....Ducks GM is from Vegas. Ducks start Osgood over Luongo (injury?)....Ducks get crushed. Fix or just a simple mistake?

Flames 7 Ducks 0

Flames carve up the Ducks in the first game of round one of the CPHL playoffs.

With surgical precision Flames make short order of the Ducks. Kiprusoff back stopped the Flames by holding the fort and earning his first shutout of the playoffs.
"Scoring goals this year hadnt been a problem for us," said GM Axmann, "keeping them out of our net was an issue. Hopefully we have solved that problem"

Flames offensive forces tonight were: Scoring came by committee, however Schneider and Yzerman each had 3pts on the night. All seven goals came from seven different scorers.

On particular note was veteran Dave Andrychuk who on 6 minutes of ice time accounted for 2 assists. Gotta love that out of the ole grizzled vet!!
Eric the Boogieman..popped a goal and an assist on 5 minutes of ice time. Do they maybe deserve first line status???? time will tell.

Power Play Conversions

DUCKS 0 for 5
FLAMES 0 for 6

Game Stars
1 - Mathieu Schneider (FLA)
2 - Richard Zednik (FLA)
3 - Miikka Kiprusoff (FLA)

Always tough to lose by 7 in the first game of a series. And the Jets continue to get it done, they're the wildcard in the Howe

TURGEON'S 3 PTS LEADS JETS PAST WILD, JETS LEADS SERIES 1-0!

Khabby takes a drink after making one of his 17 saves.

The Winnipeg Jets flew into Minnesota and took home ice advantage away from the Wild with a dominating 4-1 win Thursday afternoon.

Pierre Turgeon scored a power play goal and added 2 assists for the Jets who scored 3 power play goals in the game. "We had alot of good puck movement tonight" said Turgeon who tipped in a Petr Cajanek shot.

Turgeon set up Andrei Nikolishin early in the first when the Wild made a bad line change, the change allowed Turgeon and Nikolishin to walk in 2 on 1, with Turgeon feathering a soft pass to Nikolishin who fired past Cujo.

The Jets also got power play goals from Boris Mironov and Pascal Rheaume. The Wild were never able to muster much offence as the Jets defence bottled up the neutral zone. Nik Khabibulin was only forced to make 17 saves in the game.

Game Two is Saturday in Minnesota.

Oil draw first blood.

16,839 screaming mullets at the Rexall Place was the seen for the opening of the Howe Conference First round match up between the Oil and the Canucks. Oil go up one game in the best of seven series with a 5 – 2 victory tonight.

The first line of Vinny, Iggy and Morozov set the pace for the Oil tonight. They stole the show, with a great effort in front of a home crowd. Vinny scored on the power play 1:45 into the first period to send a message to the Canucks. Morozov scored on a perfect feed from Vinny late in the period to give the Oil a two-goal lead. The crowd was then silenced only 25 seconds later as Nummenen with a rocket from the point seemed to fool Brodeur. And gave the Canucks life going into the first intermission.

The second period was in favor of the Canucks as the Oil were only able to muster six shots on Biron. While the Canucks cashed in on one of there own to tie the game at two going into the second intermission. Prucha was left all alone in front of the net, and Laaksonen feed him the perfect feed on the power play.

You could feel the anticipation during the intermission as the hometown Oil were in a fight with Canucks. Samsonov scored early in the third to get the building rocking and Iggy took over netting two late in the third for a 5 – 2 final.

Notes:

A big blow was delivered to the Canucks this afternoon as Radek Dvorak was taken from the ice. Dvorak and former linemate Karel Rachunek collided in the boards at 17:51 of the third period. Karel was handed a two-minute unsportsmanlike conduct infraction. Early indication is Radek could miss 2 – 3 games.

Iggy continues to produce …… two goal night.

Brodeur was awesome earning his first win in this years play-offs.

Oil out shot the Canucks 34 – 22.

Next game: Game TWO Saturday in Mulletville.

The Ducks tried to change things up from the last 2 games that were played against the Flames in which they also won those games handly.

Well back to the drawing board and lets see what the Ducks can throw at the Flames in the second game.

Uggg, A Playoff jinx has started already for the Wings as the lines went haywire for this first game. Mike Dunham and Shawn Bates the two lone bright spots on the night. Dunham stopping 30 of 33 and Bates with both Detroit goals. The Newley aquired Jozeph Stumple was a late scratch in the lineup as he missed the team bus and got lost on the subway. Detroit will look to rebound in game two to tie the series up.

Canucks falter under pressure

(Edmonton) AP - Perhaps the Vancouver Canucks forgot what it takes to have success in the playoffs. The Edmonton Oilers put on a clinic in game one, chasing starting netminder Martin Biron out of the net. Jussi Markannen entered the game late in the third period. The Canucks only managed 22 shots on goal and as usual, Martin Brodeur was executional. As per usual, former Canuck had a strong game against his former team.

Some changes will be made to the Canucks' lineup for the next game. As the Canucks are nursing a few injuries to some key players, the fans are left wondering "what next?"

A playoff jinx? what jinx? you actually think the Wings stand a chance? The Preds a much better team and we will WIN, onto the game story...

Wings 2 Preds 3
Well the Preds let the wings hang around, but in the end the better team came out on top.

Reporters asked Dipitero about his performance:
Quote:
I have to better than this allowing 2 golas against a lower tier team like the Wings is unacceptable.
Failed to register a point, Elias spoke:
Quote:
I was the only minus player today, I have to be better agianst a much mweaker opponent.
Preds got two of their goals from Zetterberg and the game-winner from Calder at the 15:59 of the third period.

Powerplay was blank, goin 0 for 4. Predators will have to capitalize on the man advantage to win the games much easily.

Game 2 in Nashville where the Preds will look to take the 2-0 lead in the series.

Wild Come out Flat

Not the way you want to start a playoff series.

The Minny Wild played one of their worst games in weeks as they were dominated for 60 minutes by the Jets. The Wild generated under 20 shots and allowed the Jets to walk through their defense. Curtis Joseph held things close but ultimately the team in front of him offered little in the way of chances.

After the game Farhall was dissapointed.

"Well if anyone in that room thought that we weren't in for a doozy of a series, they better have realized it now. We need some guys to wake up...now".

Game 2 will go down Saturday. Dominik Hasek, now healthy may get the start.
