Default Dealing with In Laws

Anyone got any advice for dealing with inlaws?

It seems everytime I spend time with mine, my wife and I end up fighting. The inlaws live out of town and I am faced with spending a week at a time with them when we do see them.

My mother-in-law phones every other day. Usually during dinner.

They drove me nuts when my daughter was born. (camped out in the hosiptal) They were not very helpful on our last vacation(which they planned), as we struggled to take care of the little one and all of our stuff.

Are we talking Mafia style of "dealing" with them?

Seriously though, how are they to deal with one on one? Maybe make friends with the dad; take him to a hockey game or go hunting or something.

Just remember...these are your wife's parents. Think about how you would like your own parents treated and apply the same accumen and respect to hers.

Sometimes, well always actually, when in a relationship, you have to show some compromise and that means sucking it up and biting your tongue.

At least they're not mormon, and try to convert you every time you see them...did you know defacing your body (tattoos) is a sin according to the bible? I found that out a few weeks ago!!

I pretty much ignore mine. Whenever I see them I sit infront of the TV and tune everything out that is going on around me. When they come up (like this weekend for example) I leave.....they're going shopping and I'm going sledding. That way all I have to do is put in an obligatory dinner Saturday night, and that's it!
