So I almost died yesterday...
I was doing a lab on motors and generators and stuff, and my lab partner didn't shut off the power source as I was just about to disconnect the connections to the motor. The current that we were driving the rotor, which I would have become part of the circuit was... 25 Amps.
To give you an idea of the magnitude of it, 0.1 Amps will kill someone. I'm pretty sure over 10 Amps would evaporate you.
... and I don't know why I find it kind of funny.

You have a new lease on life, Phanuthier. Make the most of it. Remember, every day is a party while you're on this side of the dirt!
.....aaaaaannnnnd get a new lab partner.

So if 10 amps would evaporate you what exactly would 25 amps do?????????
Glad that you survived. Hope your lab partner felt bad about it.

My lab partner's my best friend. He was getting frustrated with the lab, and it was a careless mistake.
You'd think I'd have a new lease on life, but I don't. It's just a "uh huh. oh. damn."

Oops, I was wrong. 1 A is death.

I can't seem to find out at what current, I'd get evaporated. One of my friends did get about 10 mA though. (I don't know what the exact current was, but he was shorting out 208 V.

I'm one of those people that near death doesn't phaze me at all. You could tell me I have the flesh eating disease, but needed a test to be 100% certain, and I'd be like "really... that sucks, alright what have I got to do?" (<-- actually happened)
New lease on life? Not really.
People handle situations differently. If death is part of life, near death is also, by definition, part of life. Hope all is well... and smack your partner for his careless mistake (good to know that you realize how the mistake happened though)

Sounds like that riddle would be worth an experiment.

Not that I'm an expert or anything, but for .1 amps to kill you, doesn't that current have to go through your heart?
I'm sure I'm not the only one who has gotten a shock from household 120 volt current. Isn't that current much higher than .1 amp? (Like closer to 10 amps)

Depending on your age - you need to hit Cowboys or Coyotes and find the dirtiest back tatooed chick you can find and at closing close the deal with her. Its one thing every man must to before he dies - I did it when I was in Italy - although its not the same if you cant speak the language.
Just make sure she isnt tooo dirrty else double up.

The current from any voltage depends on the resistance, which would be whatever's between the voltage and ground. The body itself is actually a pretty good insulator by itself.
If you're wearing shoes and it's dry, you'll get a good buzz (I've done that before).
If you're standing in a bathtub of soapy water and you're wet.. well lets just say you get to meet Jesus.
Pure water doesn't conduct electricity very well, but any impurity that puts ions into the water (salt for example) makes it a very good conductor.

The human body is actually a good conductor, or at least parts of it, particularily the nervous system. But the resistance from other tissues is what generates the heat that ultimately causes a ton of damage. And it doesnt necessarily need to go through your heart to kill you; getting electrocuted at that level can cause severe brain damage and a whole litany of trauma including serious burns that often requires amputation. Imagine the impact of a sudden and rapid conversion of water to steam from within your body. POP!
And I'm curious about what would be required to vaporise somone...is it even possible? People who get struck by lightning always leave a corpse behind.
Either way, glad to hear you averted death or (even worse?) amputation of both arms followed by months of rehab.

Hmmm... If they did get evaporated you wouldn't know anyway!
People dissapear every year... I'm now blaming that on lighting!

I almost died yesterday too...I turned left across an intersection, and not even 5 seconds later, another car went through the intersection in EXACTLY the same spot I'd just passed through!
...
Damn! Where's the sarcasm smiley?

I say it isn't a "close call" unless you wake up in the hospital after seeing the white light at the end of the tunnel.

Funnily enough, I've actually been struck by lightning. It was really not so fun.

well that isn't really a near death experience, just being diagnosed I mean. I don't think you can say near death doesn't phase you until you stop breathing and need CPR to barely "bring you back".
