Marc Savard goes to the beach
Friday afternoon the Leafs dealt center Marc Savard and depth defenseman Ric Jackman to the Florida Panthers for Dainius Zubrus, Jason Smith and Domonic Moore.
Savard has been on the block for some time now and the time and deal was finally right. Zubrus is a solid all around player who can ease the loss of Savard up front... or who can be traded in the coming days. Who knows.
Jason Smith brings a mix of talents to the Leafs that very few players could bring. The best part is the Leafs have lacked these talents on the blueline all season long. Smith is a stay at homer who provides toughness, leadership and defensive smarts.
Dom Moore is a slick skating 2 way center who will join the Marlies and compete for a center position with the Leafs next season.
The first deal of many to come this weekend in the CPHL.
