The Washington Capitals would like to thank Mr. Leclair for his service over the last 4 months. He played extremely well for the team, and provided great veteran leadership. The fact of the matter is that the Capitals need to bring in some younger players. The Capitals are not going to compete for the cup anytime soon, and Mr. Leclair's services could be better used elsewhere.
Gm Hesla is especially excited about the return garnered for a player that many woud consider "overpayed and overaged". However, young Afanasenkov could turn into a marquee forward in the NHL. He has the skill, but the change of scenery might finally kick his drive in to be one of the best. Garth Murry provides the team with a young checking forward that can chip in the occasional point. At only 22yrs old, Murray has the chance to become a premiere defensive player in the mould of Alyn McCauly.
The Capitals have one remaining Vet that they would like to shed. Sean Brown is available for whatever the best offer is.
