Default Jets get another forward

Jets GM Walsh announced early Thursday evening that his club has made an important transaction. The Jets have acquired veteran winger John Leclair from the Capitals in exchange for young forward Dimitri Afanasenkov, and Garth Murray. The Caps also sent a hockey bag full of cash to help the Jets pay for John's salary.

Basically we were in need of another decent scoring forward and despite the belief from the lousy Isles GM, Afanasenkov and Murray were attractive young players for the rebuilding Caps. We are expecting John to come in and score some goals for us, and hopefully get us into the playoffs and then from there no one knows what will happen. Garth and Afanasenkov will develop into fine young players for the Caps and we wish them all the best.

The Washington Capitals would like to thank Mr. Leclair for his service over the last 4 months. He played extremely well for the team, and provided great veteran leadership. The fact of the matter is that the Capitals need to bring in some younger players. The Capitals are not going to compete for the cup anytime soon, and Mr. Leclair's services could be better used elsewhere.

Gm Hesla is especially excited about the return garnered for a player that many woud consider "overpayed and overaged". However, young Afanasenkov could turn into a marquee forward in the NHL. He has the skill, but the change of scenery might finally kick his drive in to be one of the best. Garth Murry provides the team with a young checking forward that can chip in the occasional point. At only 22yrs old, Murray has the chance to become a premiere defensive player in the mould of Alyn McCauly.

The Capitals have one remaining Vet that they would like to shed. Sean Brown is available for whatever the best offer is.
