Default Camping in British Columbia

so here goes the story,
the campground/RV that we stayed at in Sorrento BC by the Shuswap has been sold and is being turned into Condos..

so I am in the hunt for a new camping spot...

here's my requirements..
it has to be in BC..southern BC if possible
its for an RV..so hookups are a must.
I have to have a beach for the kids, preferably close to the campsite
and it must be clean and safe for the family.

any thoughts/referrals or suggestions?

Yup. Moyie Lake just 5 minutes south of Cranbrook is an amazing spot. Everything you need, and privacy like you wouldn't imagine.

Also check out Wasa Lake about a 1/2 hour noth of Cranbrook, just south of Windemere. It has a great beach on the warmest lake in Canada, and plenty of RV amenities too. Great scenery, especially in August when the area is dry, it has some spectacular amber and orange colors.

Moyie Lake and Wasa Lake are good mentions. They're less, uh, populated, than the ones I'm going to mention...

Okanagan Lake Provincial Park just south of Peachland and Bear Creek Provincial Park on the opposite shore from Kelowna are good spots in the Okanagan. Can be tricky to get a spot during peak times, though.

Used to go to this campground all the time when I was a youngin.

South end of Penticton. Beach is literally a walk across the road. Waterslides nearby, everything you ever wanted. The pictures on the site don't do it justice, it's actually very nice.

I 2nd the Osoyoos area for camping. Especially if you like freaking hot weather!!

And the town of Osoyoos seems to have a more attractive woman per capita in the summer than anywhere I have ever been.

you are correct, my friend.
I went to a Native run campground called Inkameep last year and it was a total disaster.
When we booked it, they advised us that they had a beach, we got there, no beach, but they were in the process of building it.
Secondly, they only had one washer and dryer unit for over 200 sites..not a big deal cause we could have gone into town to do laundry.
thirdly, the advised us that there was a park for the kids to play in, no park.
Fourth, some juvenile delinquints thought it would be fun to shave a live cat that they had caught and did so in front of my two children. They tied this poor animal up with a rope and proceeded to shave it with a razor. My two children bolted out of there fast and when we got a hold of security, they wouldnt do anything about it, cause one of the kids was related to the Band member.
Needless to say I lasted four days there and headed out. I had seen enough.
One of the problems that I face is that my TT is 26' long with a 4' slide at the back, not many campgrounds can accomodate a 30' unit.
I have been lookin in the Osoyoos area again but due to the time of year already, many places are booked or cannot accomodate me, due to my units size

But I appreciate all the info, please keep bringin it.
Thanks
Axel

Inkameep is a hole. It's like camping in a parking lot... stall by cramped stall.... NEVER will go back there again.

Nice to see all the love for Christina Lake.....it's about an hour West from where I live.

Pretty decent spot to camp, nice scenery. Warm water, but it gets very busy during the long weekends in the summer. If you're there for a family outing, it may not be your bag (going during long weekends), but if you want to party it up a bit or see some young ladies in bikinis, you might like it. If you go just during a regular summer weekend, you will probably like it.

About a 10 minute drive East of Grand Forks, about 45 minutes West of Trail.

Was just through Sorrento a couple of times last summer Sample. My father-in-law is hoping to buy a summer home there. He just retired. Sorry to hear about the loss of your spot. From my travels around the B.C. interior I've learned enough to be sure that you will find something more than suitable with very little effort!

and you are probably right, however, given the notice that we were given, its making it a lil difficult right now cause most of the places I have contact are already booked for the summer.

Had we been given some more notice, it might have been easier.

oh well, thats the way it goes

Kootney Lake is quite nice also. North of Creston B.C. - it's a huge lake - lots of nice camping spots around there - with many beaches. I spent a lot of my youth on that lake - great place.
