Default Ipod in water

Ok, I'm an idiot.
I put my ipod into my upsidedown baseball cap with a number of other things to carry them downstairs. As soon as I picked up the hat the ipod fell out the side.
Must be bad karma or something, because it fell straight into a mug of water. Of all the damn places to land...It didn't even hit the rim, just striaght swish into the 3" opening.

Now I'm wodering if anyone has any advice with waterlogged electronics.
It won't turn on, but I havn't tried reseting it...so it could be perfectly OK...hopefully
I'm thinking I should wait to try that for a while, so I know the insides are completely dry first and no parts will short curcuit.
Anyone know if it's best to wait, or should I just try it?
Also, any other advice would be extremely appreciated.

Thank you all in advance

Rinse it with distilled water, then let it air dry. Only turn it on when it's dry and you are sure there are no minerals left over from the water it was in originally. For the love of god, don't put it in the dishwasher though.

Well I fix electronics for a living. The best thing you an do is clean the insides with distilled water or ISOPROPYL. This needs to be done soon or you will get water damage. But if its an ipod with a harddrive... u might be hoop on it

Let it air-dry COMPLETELY before you try turning it on. I'd say leave it in a warm place for at least eight hours, maybe even 24 to be safe. Then try turning it on.

If all else fails, you can call Apple and hope you're still under warranty.

I'd let it dry a week personally. I've dropped stuff in the drink many times. As long as it's totally dry, you should be ok.
