Is this not a conflict of interest?
http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/03/...ity/index.html
DP World, which is owned by the United Arab Emirates, has purchased six key U.S. ports from its former owners, a British company.
Is it racist to say that it's against the United State's best interests to allow them to control American ports?
The deal is pending a 45-day security investigation, but is there any chance this deal gets approved? I can't see it.

THis is kinda old news, but I never did see it get discussed here.
It was quite the broo ha ha, as apparently the White House gave the deal the green light, and then later said Dubya had no idea what it was about.

Well, if you're watching Lou Dobbs on CNN busting most of his corpuscles on this you'd think there is no chance.
For balance, the supposedly left wing CBS printed this point by point opinion piece defence of the ports deal a few days ago:
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/...n1335531.shtml
In the end, I think you'll see it approved.

The interesting thing about this deal was when the crap hit the fan, suddenly brain centre declared they didn't know anything about it. With the post-911 security concerns I doubt something of this importance would be approved without high-ranking knowledge.

The deal was approved for a British owned company...which was subsequently sold to the UAE owned company. That's why the confusion.

Is it just me, or is it ironic that it's the lefties in the US who are up in arms about this? I don't think there is any connection between this company and terrorists, so why are they all of a sudden being painted with the same brush? It's not because they are MUSLIM or anything is it?

This is the one time I'll stand up for Bush.
DP World is apparently one of the best companies in the world when it comes to this type of business. It would be racist to suggest that Arabs can't be trusted on the basis of their ethnicity. Dubai is also a major commercial centre, not unlike New York, Tokyo, London, Hong Kong, and Singapore. There is nothing unusual or alarming about this aquisition.
I understand that there is some apprehension because at least two of the 9/11 hijackers had ties to the UAE, and the country's banking system has allegedly been used to launder money for terrorists, but I think people are going a little overboard with this. Afterall, DP World will still be hiring Americans to work in the ports.
