Performance this morning (cause someone will ask)

FYI we had a small problem with the Apache logs growing too large and trying to attack Tokyo so the site was slow (to say the least).

Been cleaned up now.

so um...why was the site slow?

Apache is the web server software, and this software creates log files to log all kinds of information (like how many times Cheese hits refresh every day).

Anyway, these log files had grown so large they decided to take on Mothra and Rodan for their (assumed) rightful place in Tokyo's monster hierarchy beneath Godzilla.

They've been captured and shrunk down to a managable size now though so all is well.

I've thought that the site has slowed down over the last couple of months. It's definitely not as fast as some of the other messageboards I frequent, and that wasn't always the case.

Since you're (one of) the computer guy(s) working on this site, whatever happened to the bar at the bottom of the thread that showed who was all viewing that particular thread? I miss that.

Or should I ask this question in the computer help thread?

I figured it was because all the traffic due to the MONSTER trade we had today..
maybe we can use this as an oppurtunity to introduce a new word into the CP slang
"The site is acting Hulse today" (Hulse = Slow, unreliable, but ok enough to get by)

Unfortunately it's been removed for the time being to try and help with forum performance.
