Ship & Anchor (17th) usually shows games, especially involving England.

Why do they call them friendlys? I hope the Flames and Oilers never play a friendly.

Wes Brown has won a recall for Wednesday's friendly against Uruguay. Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher are back after injury.

There are no suprises in the squad, though Kieron Richardson may get the chance to impress on England's left wing. Stuart Downing is overlooked after his return from injury.

Cool. You can listen to the game live on BBC radio. Hockey announcers could learn a lot from these guys; very entertaining.

GOAL Republic of Ireland 1-0 Sweden
Damien Duff warms the crowd on a chilly Dublin night as he gives the home side a lead they probably deserve. The winger cuts inside Alexander Ostlund and shoots into the corner, although the Chelsea man is helped by a slight deflection off Olof Mellberg.

COME ON IRELAND!

SPOILER > > >

GOAL England 0-1 Uruguay
Omar Puso
unleashes an absolute stunner of a left-footed volley from fully 30 yards to stun the home crowd and give the South Americans the lead.

GOAL Republic of Ireland 2-0 Sweden
Robbie Keane marks his first game as captain in the best possible way - with a fine goal. The Spurs' striker races clear of a static Sweden defence and hammers home from the edge of the box.

What a shame for the entire world that Ireland did not qualify for the World Cup!

GOAL Republic of Ireland 3-0 Sweden
Liam Miller
scores an absolute peach to seemingly ensure the perfect start for new boss Steve Staunton. The Leeds man races through midfield - where the Swedes appear to have gone missing, it must be said - and unleashes a beautiful finish into the roof of the net from 20 yards.

Surely, Ireland should rise to #1 in the FIFA rankings, and gain an exemption to enter the World Cup now!

GOAL England 1-1 Uruguay
Peter Crouch
proves his value as a substitute as he nets his first goal for England, rising high to nod home Joe Cole's cross with 15 minutes to go and draw England level.

GOAL England 2-1 Uruguay
Joe Cole
nips in at the near post to clinically fire Shaun Wright-Phillips' near-post cross high into the roof of the net and - surely - give England the victory.

Nice to see one of our mens' teams can score in Europe.

However, this good result will be followed by the inevitable Canadian Mens soccer losses to teams even further down the FIFA food chain in the next 6 months (although I thought I heard quiet whispers about playing Brazil possibly this summer in leading up to the WC).
