Karel Pilar is playing again in the Czech league.
The 28-year-old defenceman, who has been plagued by a condition known as viral myopathy (a heart virus), has joined Sparta Praha of the Czech Elite League. He is unable to rejoin the Maple Leafs this season as he did not sign a contract before December 1, according to the new Collective Bargaining Agreement. The Leafs will attempt to sign him for next season but he will not play this year in the NHL.
